Le grimpeur fort italien Marcello Bombardi vient de s’offrir son premier 9b avec la 3ème ascension de “lapsus”, une voie localisée à Andonno. Cette voie possède un fort côté historique : c’est le premier 9b italien, réalisée en 2015 par Stefano Ghisolfi, et c’est aussi l’extension du premier 8c+ italien, le mythique “Noïa” par Severino Scassa en 1993. Voici le commentaire de Marcello depuis son compte Instagram :
“Lapsus est le premier 9b italien grimpé par Stefano Ghisolfi en 2015 et bien qu’il soit situé pas loin de chez moi, je ne l’avais jamais pris en considération. Je l’ai toujours considéré comme trop long et extrême pour moi.
L’automne dernier, avec un peu plus de courage et après un voyage assez productif à Flatanger, grâce au temps disponible pour un hiver qui me paraissait médiocre en compétitions et voyages à l’étranger, j’ai décidé de choisir “Lapsus” comme projet à long terme. Mais je ne pensais pas que cela serait si long et dur mentalement d’essayer sans cesse la même voie.
Cela a été une longue aventure, la plus longue que j’ai passée jusqu’à présent sur un seul itinéraire et cela m’a mis à l’épreuve. De croire pouvoir le faire rapidement, de changer trop souvent de méthode pour trouver la plus efficace, de marcher jusqu’à la falaise avec des raquettes et un demi-mètre de neige pour profiter des derniers jours de la saison hivernale, de revenir au printemps et retomber plusieurs fois sur le sommet au même endroit, de perdre son enthousiasme à cause des douleurs à la peau causées par le rocher très abrasif de la première partie, se retrouver avec le bac final devant les yeux mais ne pas être capable de l’attraper et, hier, de pouvoir enfin réussir le jeté final et clipper la chaîne.
Je vais en dire plus sur cette aventure et il y aura une belle vidéo… pour le moment un grand merci à tous les amis qui ont partagé avec moi les journées à la falaise, les joies et les peines, mentales et physiques.
À propos du niveau… Lapsus a été libéré en 9b et répété par Adam Ondra qui le considérait comme un 9b facile. En essayant l’itinéraire, j’ai pu trouver et utiliser une genou qui permet de récupérer avant le dernier pas de bloc final. Ce n’est pas facile de maintenir la tension et de relâcher un peu de poids, surtout venant d’en bas avec une jambe fatiguée, mais je pense que cela pourrait enlever la note complète de 9b.
Quoi qu’il en soit, ce qui compte le plus pour moi, c’est l’expérience et la bataille avec la voie. Elle m’a mis au défi et m’a beaucoup appris et je serai prêt à recommencer, avec ou sans le b.”
Si le niveau est confirmé à 9b, Marcello deviendrait le second grimpeur italien à atteindre ce niveau !

Strong Italian climber Marcella Bombardi just climbed his firt 9b with the third ascent of “Lapsus”, Ghisolfi’s testpiece located in Andonno. This route is quite an historical one: Italy’s first 9b and the extension of “Noia” (first ascent 2015) , Italy’s first 8c+ by Seve Scassa in 1993. Here is comment on his Instagram account:
“Lapsus was the first Italian 9b climbed by Stefano Ghisolfi in 2015 and despite being relatively close to home I had never took it in consideration. I’ve always seen it as too long and extreme for me.
Last autumn, with more courage after a productive trip to Flatanger and thanks to some time available for a winter that looked poor in competitions and foreign trips, I decided to take Lapsus as a long term project. But I didn’t mean that long, very long for my mental tolerance to try the same route.
It has been a long adventure, the longest I have spent so far on a single route and it has put me to the test. From believing to be able to do it quickly, to changing the method too many times to find the most efficient one, to walking to the crag with snowshoes and half a meter of snow to take advantage of the last days of the winter season, to returning to spring and fall on the top several times on the same move, to losing enthusiasm due to skin pain caused by the very abrasive rock of the first part of the route, to getting with the final jug in front of the eyes but not being able to pull and grab it and, yesterday, to finally be able to commit the final jump and clip the chain.
I will tell more about this adventure and there will be a nice video… for the moment a special thanks to all the friends who shared the days at the crag, to share joys and sorrows, mental and physical.
About the grade… Lapsus was freed as 9b and repeated by Adam Ondra who considered it an easy 9b. Trying the route I was able to find and use a kneebar that allows to recover before the last final boulder problem. It is not easy to hold the tension and release some weight, especially coming from below with a tired leg, but I think it could take away the full grade of 9b.
Anyway, what matters most to me was the experience and the battle with the route. He challenged and taught me a lot and I would do it again, with or without the b.“
If the 9b is confirmed, Marcello will become the 2nd italian climber to reach this grade!
