Décidement, depuis l’an dernier les répétitions de l’iconique voie de deep water solo mallorquine de Chris Sharma, Es Pontas, s’accélèrent. La voie remontant le dévers d’un magnifique arc de triomphe en face du village de Santanyi est célèbre pour son furieux crux médian, un jeté dans une lointaine alcôve, avant un final tout en compression sur un pilier. Non-cotée à l’ouverture mais généralement évaluée par les grimpeurs autour de 9a+, Es Pontas demeure un passage mythique ayant fait rêver des générations de grimpeurs. Dernièrement, deux grimpeurs ont rétabli au sommet, le jeune compétiteur français Sam Richard qui l’avait raté de peu l’année passée (cf vidéo ci-dessous), devenant le 3ème frenchie à gravir la voie après Léo Favot et Mejdi Schalk, puis le jeune talent roumain Darius Rapa, qui a eu la chance de faire une séance photo avec Christan Core après son ascension pour immortaliser la croix avec un cliché magnifique ! Attention, ce n’est pas encore fini pour cette saison, 3 autres grimpeurs étant actuellement en mano à mano avec la voie, passant tous le crux du jeté pour tomber dans la partie sommitale : l’italien Michael Piccolruaz, le bloqueur allemand Jonas Winter et le jeune autrichien Jan Luca Posch. Affaire à suivre !
Since last year, attempts to repeat Chris Sharma’s iconic Mallorcan deep water solo route, Es Pontas, have been coming thick and fast. The route, which climbs the overhang of a magnificent arch opposite the village of Santanyi, is famous for its furious mid-route crux, a dyno into a distant hole, before a final compression section on a pillar. Ungraded when it was first opened but generally given around 9a+ by climbers, Es Pontas remains a legendary route that has inspired generations of climbers. Recently, two of them reached the summit: the young French competitor Sam Richard, who narrowly missed it last year (see video above), becoming the third French guy to climb the route after Léo Favot and Mejdi Schalk, and the young Romanian talent Darius Rapa, who had the chance to do a photo shoot with Christan Core after his ascent to immortalize his climb with a magnificent picture! But wait, the season isn’t over yet! Three other climbers are currently battling it out on the route, all having passed the dyne crux to fall in the final section: Italy’s Michael Piccolruaz, Germany’s Jonas Winter, and young Austrian Jan Luca Posch.
