2025 n’a pas été une année facile pour Jacopo Larcher: échec à flasher « Freerider », blessure du cou, motivation en berne… Mais en fil rouge, « Bon Voyage », à Annot, qu’il vient justement d’enchainer.
L’Italien avait commencé l’aventure avec le premier E12 « officiel » en novembre 2023, après la première ascension de James Pearson, lequel lui avait bien vendu la ligne. Rebelote au printemps 2024, mais dans les deux cas, le problème de Jacopo tenait à une des prises de la traversée, celle du petit doigt qu’on voit bien dans la vidéo de Ondra ici. Car le petit doigt de l’Italien est trop faible pour supporter le move, sur lequel il butte sans arrêt tout en risquant de se faire une poulie.
En 2025, l’entrainement porte ses fruits et lors de son troisième voyage à « Bon Voyage », Jacopo passe le trou… Mais se blesse le cou en travaillant la voie un jour avant le départ. Le médecin lui impose un mois de repos complet, dont il passe la moitié à sentir l’état de son bras gauche se détériorer.
Normalement, Jacopo et sa compagne Babsi Zangerl passent l’automne dans le Yosemite, mais cette année l’Autrichienne s’est blessée, et le plan tombe à l’eau. Larcher se rabat donc sur « Bon Voyage », qu’il finit par enchainer, lors de son quatrième voyage donc. À sa grande surprise, le crux dans l’enchainement ne fut pas le petit doigt, ainsi qu’il l’explique:
« Ce qui est marrant est que, quand j’ai commencé à essayer la voie, je pensais que dès que je passerais le mono j’enchainerais dans la foulée, vu que la dernière section n’est pas trop dure prise séparément… Mais la réalité fut bien différente, et je suis tombé cinq fois après le mono. Quelle drôle de renversement-d’abord ne pas pouvoir faire le move, puis le réussir presque à chaque fois mais tomber après. »
Il s’agit de la quatrième ascension de la ligne de Pearson, après les répétitions de Adam Ondra et Seb Berthe.

The Italian had started his adventure with the first « official » E12 in November 2023, after James Pearson’s first ascent, who had really sold him the line. He tried again in the spring of 2024, but in both cases, Jacopo’s problem stemmed from one of the holds on the traverse, the pinky pocket, clearly visible in Ondra’s video here. The Italian’s little finger was too weak to withstand the move, causing him to constantly fall off it and risking a pulley injury.
In 2025 the training paid off, and on his third trip to « Bon Voyage, » Jacopo made it past the pocket… but injured his neck while working the route the day before his departure. The doctor prescribed a month of complete rest, half of which Jacopo spent feeling his left arm’s strength fritter away.
Normally, Jacopo and his partner Babsi Zangerl spend the autumn in Yosemite, but this year the Austrian climber was injured, and the plan fell through. Larcher then opted for « Bon Voyage, » which he finally sent on his fourth trip. To his great surprise though, the redpoint crux wasn’t the pinky pocket, as he explains:
« The funny thing was that when I first started trying the route, I thought that once I somehow stuck the
mono move, I would definitely send, since the last section didn’t feel too bad in isolation… but reality was
different, and I fell at least five times after the mono. What an unexpected turn—from not being able to
do the move at all, to sticking it almost every time and then falling after it. »
This is the fourth ascent of Pearson’s line, following the repeats by Adam Ondra and Seb Berthe.
