Jan Hojer réalise le toit d’Orsay, 8C – Jan Hojer climbs Orsay roof (+ video)

  • 23/11/2017

The Orsay roof aka “Quoi de neuf” is a 30-move roof problem in the southern suburb of Paris. The problem was first climbed in two parts (but not sent) by Jacky Godoffe many years ago. The fist half is a very intense 7C+ that requires a lot of body tension, whereas the second part grades around 8A+/B and includes the now famous one arm helicopter move. Both parts are often repeated, but the whole thing is more challenging. Jan Hojer recently got the 4th repeat of the problem, which was given 8C by former ascensionists (all French!) Bergasse, Levier and Bouin. With more endurance thanks to lead training for World Cups, Jan was fit enough to climb the whole roof. “It took me a while to get all the moves wired again but after some time the muscle memory kicked in. I took a long rest, going through the moves over and over again in my head before my first try from the start. I got through the first part efficiently and felt much better compared to my first session! I tried to stay as calm as possible and somehow kept it together throughout the second part!” Video footage below.
