Mon premier jour de rêve dans le Tessin a commencé avec la réalisation de « Dreamtime » 8C, puis a continué avec « The Dagger » 8B et s’est terminé avec « La Proue » 8B. Excitée pour les jours à venir ! »
C’est avec ces mots que Janja Garnbret, notre double championne olympique slovène, annonce l’impensable : la seconde réalisation féminine de « Dreamtime », premier 8C de l’histoire du bloc, établi il y a un quart de siècle par Fred Nicole à Cresciano, un an après l’américaine Michaela Kiersch. Mais le plus médusant, c’est que le bloc est sorti dans la journée, à son premier jour sur place, avec une facilité déconcertante (regardez la vidéo ci-dessous !), empoché avec deux autres 8B, presque en amuse bouche… C’est le second 8C bloc de Janja qui avait réalisé une répétition déjà éclair de « Bügeleisen sit » à Maltatal au printemps 2024.
On la savait très en forme, la saison internationale clôturée et les obligations compétitives et entrainements mis de côté, et elle avait déjà réalisé une performance incroyable il y a quelques jours : le plus gros flash féminin en falaise, « Pure Dreaming » 8c+/9a à Arco. Une chose est sûre, Janja semble avoir de la marge en falaise comme en bloc, puisque dès qu’elle sort dehors quelques jours, des performances incroyables sont réalisées.
La suite de son séjour à Ticino s’annonce en effet excitant, et si Janja grimpe un peu plus régulièrement en milieu naturel à l’avenir, nul doute que nous pourrions très prochainement assister à une nouvelle page écrite dans l’histoire du haut-niveau féminin en escalade, avec du 9A bloc ou du 9a à vue ! Qui vivra verra !

With these words, Janja Garnbret, our double Olympic champion from Slovenia, announced the unthinkable: the second female ascent of “Dreamtime,” the first 8C in bouldering history, established a quarter of a century ago by Fred Nicole at Cresciano, one year after American Michaela Kiersch. But what is most astonishing is that she completed the boulder on her first day there, with disconcerting ease (watch the vid below), along with two other 8Bs, almost as an appetizer… This is Janja’s second 8C boulder, having already made a lightning-fast repeat of “Bügeleisen sit” (8C) in Maltatal in the spring of 2024.
We knew she was in great shape, with the international season over and her competitive obligations and training put aside, and she had already achieved an incredible performance a few days ago: the biggest female flash on a cliff, “Pure Dreaming” 8c+/9a in Arco. One thing is certain, Janja seems to have room for improvement both on the cliff and on the boulder, because as soon as she goes outside for a few days, she achieves incredible performances.
The rest of her stay in Ticino promises to be exciting, and if Janja climbs a little more regularly outdoors in the future, there is no doubt that we could very soon witness a new page being written in the history of women’s high-level climbing, with 9A boulder or 9a onsight?! Only time will tell!
