Sensation ce week-end dans le Peak District grâce à la légende Ben Moon, qui a réussi samedi à l’âge de 52 ans un des premiers 8c+ au Monde, “Evolution” à Raven Tor ! C’est une une voie très courte de 10 mètres dont la première revient à Jerry moffat en 1995 que Ben décrit comme un “8A bloc dans un 8b voie dur. Il juge cette voie aussi dure que “Rainshadow” 9a. Plus d’infos chez Climber Magazine. Ben avait déjà défrayé la chronique en 2015 après l’ascension de “Rainshadow” 9a à 49 ans. A noter que “Hubble” qu’il avait proposé prudemment à 8c+ en 1990 n’a été répété que 6 fois en 28 ans et pourrait valoir plutôt son 9a, ce qui en ferait le premier mondial avant “Action Directe” en 1991 par Güllich. Le futur nous dira. On pourrait reparler de Ben très prochainement, en grande forme, il est aussi assez proche dans son autre projet du moment, “Northern lights”, 9a très dur de Kilnsey ouvert par McClure en 2000 qu’il estime plutôt être 9a+. À noter la sortie de la bande-annonce d’un documentaire produit par Nick Brown (UK Climbing) retraçant la vie des top grimpeurs britanniques dans les années 80 dont Ben fait partie. De véritables acharnés repoussant sans cesse les limites de la haute-difficulté de l’époque… et définissant les contours de l’escalade moderne ! Le film devait être disponible très prochainement, début 2019. Il nous tarde !
Nice vibe in Peak District this past Saturday with Ben Moon, 52, who repeats one of the world’s first 8c+ “Evolution” in Raven Tor! It’s a very short route around 10 meters that Jerry Moffat first ascended in 1995. For Ben the route is “a 8A boulder in an hard 8b route, as hard as “Rainshadow” 9a”. More infos on Climber Magazine. Ben at 49, has also climbed “Rainshadow” 9a in 2015, His testpiece, “Hubble”, graded 8c+, opened in 1990 has seen only 6 repeats in 28 years and could maybe considered as 9a, if this grade is confirmed in the future, it could become the first 9a of the World before “Action directe” by Güllich in 1991. In very good shape, Ben is also close to repeat one oh his other projects, “Northern lights” 9a in Kilnsey (first ascent by McClure in 2000) that he thinks it could deserve the 9a+ grade.
