Première féminine de Bionic Commando 8c+ par Melissa Le Nevé – First female ascent of Bionic Commando 8c+ by Melissa Le Nevé

  • 08/05/2020

Fabian me rattrape in extremis à 50 cm du sol…

In Germany since the beginning of March, Melissa Le Nevé took advantage of flexible containment to visit unknown crags of Bavaria like Jesuswand where she succeed in a power resistance route etablished by Christian Bindhammer, “Bionic Commando” 8c+. Talk with her.

– What’s up? How was the containment period in Germany?
Very well and you? Since March I have crossed the German border to be with Fabian. I am really happy to have had this chance.
In Bayern there was no confinement as in France. Public places have been closed and hygienic measures taken. Outdoor sport, including climbing, was never banned, but limited to two people.

– What do these Bavarian spots look like?
In Bavaria many know the Frankenjura but few the rest. On the Oberallgau region there are dozens of conglomerate or limestone cliffs including Rottechberg, one of the most famous spots. The routes are generally rather short 15/20m and Christian Bindhammer has developed more than a dozen routes between 8c+ and 9a+.

– Describe “Bionic Commando”. How is the crux?
“Bionic Commando” is the most logical line, in my opinion the nicest of the “Jesuswand” crag. It stands at the middle of the cliff, straight to the top. 25 moves power endurance testpiece in a 45° overhang. It starts with a 7A boulder into a 7B+ boulder then en 7B boulder. From there you have an uncomfortable rest on a undercling then the crux, a 7C boulder problem a it morpho. You need to go again on a right hand hold with a toe-hook (captured in the picture) and it’s hard to keep the body tension after all these difficulties.

– How was the process?
I was falling around 10 times at the last move until it worked by miracle at my 3rd go of the day. It took me 7/8 sessions with a lucky day where I fell at the last bolt which was unscrewed and it went out. Fabian took me in the rope and I was half a meter from the ground.
