Roberts et Timonov défrayent la chronique en bloc – Great bouldering ticks by Roberts and Timonov (+video & intw)

Cela faisait longtemps qu’on avait pas parlé de 8B+ flash et d’Aidan Roberts, voici qu’entre deux averses ce dernier a réalisé “Momentum” 8B+ à Val Bavona (Suisse) en un seul run, une leçon de maîtrise et de tenue de prises. On rappelle que le grimpeur écossais n’est pas un inconnu, lui qui entre autres avait réalisé la seconde ascension d'”Alphane” (9A) cet automne, avec aussi pas mal de 8C+ bloc à son actif. Aidan rejoint le club très fermé des gens ayant réalisé ce niveau du premier coup : Adam Ondra avec “Gecko assis, “Confessions” et “Jade”, Jakob Schubert avec “Anam Cara”, “Never ending story” et “Catalan witness the fitness”, Will Bosi avec “Graceland” ou encore Daniel Woods avec “Entlinge”. Du côté de la haute-difficulté après travail c’est le Russe Vadim Timonov qui propose au pays (à Djan-Tugan, dans le Nord du Caucase, non loin la frontière avec la Géorgie) une proposition extrême avec “Blackflip sit” 8C+/9A bloc, un départ assis d’un bloc dont il avait réalisé le départ debout en 8C deux semaines auparavant. Un nouveau pallier avec une ribambelle de 8C bloc à son actif aux 4 coins du monde. Nous sommes allés à sa rencontre.

Peux tu décrire l’endroit ?
C’est dans la région de Elbrus. Ce spot a été découvert en 2017 quand la coulée de boue s’est arrêtée ici. Plein de nouveaux blocs sont apparus.

Et le bloc ?
Le style du bloc est très puissant avec des gros mouvements de gainage, environ 13 mouvements de main, dans un dévers très prononcé à 60-70° sur des mauvaises prises.

Le processus ?
Je suis venu ici 3 trips de 2-3 semaines pour faire ce bloc

Pourquoi proposer ce slash dans la cotation ?
J’ai mis le slash car j’étais trop effrayé de proposer le 9A. Basé sur mon expérience j’aurai proposé 9A, j’ai essayé et réalisé un paquet de blocs durs partout sur la planète. Mais j’avais peur de me tromper, donc j’ai mis un slash. Ce qui est sûr, c’est que “Blackflip sit” est ma première ascension la plus dure et le bloc le plus dur que j’ai jamais réalisé.

On the redpoint side, it’s Russian Vadim Timonov who striked in his country (in Djan-Tugan, in the North of Caucasus, not far from the border with Georgia) with the first ascent of an extreme proposition with “Blackflip sit” 8C+/ 9A, a sit start of a boulder hepreviously climbed the 8C stand start two weeks ago. A new level for Vadim after numerous 8C’s 8C boulders all over the world. Little interview.

Can you describe the place ?
This is the Elbrus region. The area was formed in 2017 when mudflow came down here and many new boulders appeared.

And the boulder?
The style of the boulder is power and core movements. about 13 hand moves, 60-70 degrees overhang and bad holds.

The process?
I spent three trips here for 2-3 weeks to send the boulder.

What about the slash grade?
I put a slash, because I’m afraid to give the upper category. Based on my experience i would give 9A, I have tried a lot of hard boulders all over the world and done a lot too.. But I’m afraid of a mistake on my part. so put a slash. It’s my hardest first ascent and the hardest boulder I’ve ever done for sure!
