« Ease the clutch » raconte l’histoire de Gavin Nix, ancien Marine qui s’est retrouvé amputé du pied droit suite à une infection osseuse. Grâce à l’escalade, il retrouve un sens à sa vie et se donne comme objectif particulièrement d’être le second grimpeur handicapé à gravir du 8A bloc, avec « Ease the clutch » à Ogden (Utah). Après avoir trouvé une méthode astucieuse pour le premier mouvement très puissant du bloc sur son mauvais pied, Gavin ne fera qu’une bouchée de ce bloc hyper physique. Avant Gavin, Ronnie Dickson (amputé) avait gravi du 7C+ bloc en 2015 et Erwan Lievin « Le pilier du désert » à une main ce printemps, et Justin Salas (déficient visuel) avait gravi « Worn Turns » (8A) à Joes Valley en 2018. Voilà de quoi donner des idées à nos talentueux grimpeurs français : Erwan Lievin, Solenne Piret, Julien Gasc ou encore Thierry Delarue !
“Ease the Clutch” tells the story of Gavin Nix, a former Marine who had his right foot amputated due to a bone infection. Thanks to climbing, he found meaning in his life again and set himself the goal of becoming the second disabled climber to climb an 8A boulder, with “Ease the Clutch” in Ogden, Utah. After finding a clever beta for the first powerful move of boulder on his bad foot, Gavin made short work of this extremely physical boulder. Before Gavin, Ronnie Dickson (amputee) climbed 7C+ boulder in 2015, and also Erwan Lievin « Le Pilier du désert » with one hand this Spring and Justin Salas (visually impaired) climbed “Worn Turns” (8A) in Joes Valley in 2018.
