5. Cinq 9A à son actif. L’écossais est à lui seul en train d’asseoir la pyramide du bloc de très haut niveau. Avec « Realm of Tor’ment », à Raven Tor dans le Peak District, Angleterre, Will Bosi vient à bout de son projet le plus long, qu’il aura mis deux ans à plier, dont 10 sessions cette année.
8 mouvements über intenses, dont l’un d’eux vaudrait 8B+ en soi sur un calcaire parfois fragile et souvent fuyant aux prises étonnamment variées: inverse, trous, réglettes, pince et même de l’aplat! Le grimpeur britannique estime que la ligne dépasse en difficulté les 8C+ qu’il a enchainés dans le même style, et le considère comme un 9A possiblement soft. Assez proche, stylistiquement, de « Spots of time« , le 9A de Aidan Roberts qu’il a répété à l’automne dernier.
« Realm of Tor’ment » est le second 9A anglais, pour un total partiellement en attente de confirmation de 13 blocs cotés 9A sur la planète.
On ne sait pas vous, mais nous, quand on voit tous les 9A qui sortent du rocher ou sont répétés, on se prend à penser que la cotation supérieure n’est si éloignée que ça. Adam Ondra avait enchainé quatre 9b+ avant d’ouvrir « Silence », 9c, Seb Bouin deux avant « DNA », et Jakub Schubert un seul en amont de « B.I.G ». Où se trouve la frontière entre le connu et l’inconnu? Le déjà coté et le demandant une nouvelle cotation?

5. Five 9As under his belt. The Scot is single-handedly laying the foundations of the pyramid of very high-level bouldering. With ‘Realm of Tor’ment’, at Raven Tor in the Peak District, England, Will Bosi has just completed his longest project, which took him two years to complete, including 10 sessions this year.
8 über-intense moves, one of which would be worth 8B+ on its own, on a sometimes fragile and often smooth limestone with a surprising variety of holds: undercling, pockets, crimps, pinches and even sloppers! The British climber considers that the difficulty of the line exceeds the 8C+s he has climbed in the same style, and considers it to be a possibly soft 9A. Quite close, stylistically, to ‘Spots of time’, Aidan Roberts’ 9A that he repeated last autumn.
‘Realm of Tor’ment’ is therefore the second 9A in the UK, bringing the total number of 9A-rated boulders in the world to 13, some of which are still awaiting confirmation.
We don’t know about you, but when we see all the 9As coming out of the rock or being repeated, we’re starting to think that the next grade up isn’t all that far away. Adam Ondra had climbed four 9b+ before opening ‘Silence’, 9c, Seb Bouin two before ‘DNA’, and Jakub Schubert only one prior to ‘B.I.G’. Where is the boundary between the known and the unknown? The already graded and that requiring a new grade?
