L’hiver : friction idéale dans les blocs ! L’allemand Stefan Hochbaum vient de faire tomber un projet vieux de 17 ans à Scharfenstein, Allemagne, et le propose à 8C+: « Obsidian ». Il s’agit de son premier bloc à ce niveau. Au reste, il avait sélectionné ce projet justement parce qu’il lui permettrait de dépasser un plateau, atteint précédemment avec « The Story of Two Worlds« , 8C. Il aura eu besoin de 3 ans et 55 séances pour venir à bout de ce bloc, qui se décompose en un 8A+ dans un 8B+, tous les deux bien techniques, requérant beaucoup de tension et de tenue de prise.

Pas loin, dans le Maltatal en Autriche, Nicolai Užnik vient de libérer « Mount Doom », le assis de « Hide and Seek » 8B+, qu’il propose à 9A. Nicolai le décrit comme un total de 8/9 mouvements de niveau 8B+/C ralliant le 8B+ de fin, le tout sans repos. Il avait déjà rétabli au sommet d’un 8C+, « Emotional Landscapes » et de plusieurs 8C.
Outre-atlantique, un relatif inconnu en Europe nommé Austin Purdy a répété « Bookkepping », 8C+ (troisième ascension), le long bloc (25 mouvements) ouvert en 2022 par Drew Ruana dans le Colorado. En dépit de son profil discret, Purdy a été coché deux autres 8C+, « Insomniac » et « Sword of Damocles », une FA.
