Il était dessus cette semaine en compagnie de Dave Graham, le bloqueur américain Daniel Woods a enchaîné aujourd’hui “La Capella” 9b à Siurana à sa 5ème séance. C’est le premier 9b de Daniel et la 3ème ascension de la voie après Ondra et Ghisolfi. Connu pour ses réalisations extrêmes en bloc, comme le flash de “Entlinge” 8B+/C, Daniel n’en reste pas moins un très bon falaisiste avec des ascensions notables comme “Thor’s hammer” 9a/a+ à Flatanger, “Jaws II” 9a+ à Rumney ou encore “Papi chulo” à Oliana. Ici “La Capella” lui convient bien : la voie est découpée en 3 pas de bloc sans repos. Un 8A+ bloc de 5 mouvements suivi par un 8A+/B de 7 mouvements et encore un 7C de 5 mouvements avant une fin en 7b pour savourer jusqu’au relais. Tout un programme ! C’est déjà le 4ème 9b réalisé cette année ce qui montre une accélération des performances en escalade sportive. Daniel reste encore 80 jours en Espagne donc d’autres croix devraient pouvoir surement suivre !
He was trying this week with Dave Graham, Daniel Woods just did “La Capella” 9b at his 5th day of effort. It’s the first 9b of Daniel and the 3rd ascent of the route after Ondra and Ghisolfi. Known for his extreme ascents in bouldering (one of hardest flash of history with “Entlige” 8B+/C), Daniel is also very talented in sportclimbing with notable sends like “Thor’s hammer” 9a/a+ in Flatanger, “Jaws II” 9a+ in Rumney or “Papi chulo” 9a+ in Oliana. Here “La Capella” suits him well: the climb is divided into 3 boulder problems without rest. An intro 5 moves 8A+ (v12), straight to a 7 moves 8A+/B v12/13, straight to a 5 moves 7c (v9). After this you get a victory 7b (12b) to the anchor. It’s already the 4th 9b sent this year which shows a progression of performances in climbing! Daniel is going to stay in Spain 80 days more, so more ascents will follow for sure
