Il l’essayait en fil rouge depuis quelques temps, avec notamment une présence remarquée dans le film dédié à la répétition de Simon Lorenzi, le champion autrichien Jakob Schubert s’offre un cadeau de Noël avant l’heure avec une répétition de “Alphane”, le 9A bloc de Shawn Raboutou à Chironico en Suisse. C’est la 5ème ascension du problème après Raboutou, Aidan Roberts, Will Bosi et Simon Lorenzi. Voici le commentaire de Jakob laissé sur les réseaux.
“Je me suis offert le parfait cadeau de Noël en atteignant mon dernier grand objectif de 2023. J’ai réalisé non seulement mon bloc le plus dur, mais aussi l’un de mes préférés !
Cela a été une véritable montagne russe pour moi, car c’était l’un de mes principaux objectifs de l’année, mais en même temps, il venait après les championnats du monde de Berne et “Project Big”.
Je suis passé de bonnes sensations lors des premières sessions à une volonté d’abandonner en cours de route, car j’avais l’impression que le bloc nécessitait plus de concentration et d’attention que je n’en avais à ma disposition.
Cette course à la croix a été épique : de progrès irréguliers en échecs, une zipette après la partie la plus difficile, l’obligation d’attendre la fin de mauvaises conditions avant de me sentir encore plus mal dans le bloc mais de quand même me battre jusqu’au bout… Une histoire de persévérance personnelle que m’apporte l’escalade et dont je suis reconnaissant.”
Jakob avait déjà une super carnet de visites en bloc avec notamment plusieurs 8B+ flash, il franchit ici un nouveau pallier et démontre que l’année 2023 a été pleine pour lui, avec entre autres une victoire au championnats du Monde en difficulté et au combiné avec un ticket olympique décroché, la première ascension de “Project Big” 9c à Flatanger et maintenant du 9A bloc ! Une année incroyable pour l’autrichien qu’il tentera à coup sûr de reproduire l’an prochain !

Austrian champion Jakob Schubert gave himself an early Christmas present with a repeat of “Alphane”, Shawn Raboutou’s 9A boulder in Chironico, Switzerland. This is the problem’s 5th ascent after Raboutou, Aidan Roberts, Will Bosi and Simon Lorenzi. Here is Jakob’s comment left on the networks.
“Got myself the perfect Christmas present by achieving my last big goal of 2023. Sending not just my hardest but also one of my favorite boulders ever!
This has been a real rollercoaster ride for me, as it was high on my list of goals for the year but at the same time second to both the World Champs in Bern and Project Big.
I went from feeling good on the first sessions to basically being about to give up along the way, as I felt that the boulder required more focus and attention than I seemed to have available.
The ride had it all, from inconsistent progress and setbacks, a slip after the hard part, having to wait out bad conditions before feeling worse again on the boulder but somehow battling through, a story of personal perseverance that I’m grateful climbing can provide me with.”
Jakob already had a great bouldering ticklist, including several 8B+ flashed, but this year he’s taken it to a whole new level, demonstrating that 2023 has been a full year for him, with a World Championship win in lead and combined and a ticket for Paris 2024 Olympics, the first ascent of “Project Big” 9c in Flatanger and now his first 9A boulder! An incredible year for the Austrian, and it’s sure he will try to repeat the feats next year!
