Babsi Zangerl en forme ! – Babsi Zangerl in shape!

  • 10/05/2020

Since the end of lockdown in Austria and our recent interview, Babsi didn’t miss her return to rocks. Despite a cancelled trip to Yosemite, the Austrian climber could complete 2 current projects close to her home.
First Babsi did a repeat of “Unleashed” (8c+) in Kalkhofen, a route she tried one year ago which is known for a long run-out crux.
“There is a quite long runout at the crux and it is hard to get over this sequence if you have no clue how it works. After many unpromising tries and falls, this was the first time I really wished to have a clip-stick or somebody who put up a toprope for me. Somehow I sticked to the idea to reach the next draw and find the perfect beta. To be honest there was also some „ground up ethic“ pressure from Alex Luger. Reaching the next draw was like clipping the chains- definitely a good learning process and even more rewarding. Happy to complete this line, finally!

Then she tried “Instruktor” (8c+/9a), a route very overhanging located in Au bolted by Jürgen Höfle and freed by her boyfriend Jacopo Larcher last September.
” I was curious to hop on this 45m monster line! It was all about trying as hard as I can! This is a line I am very proud of, I am not really good in steep climbing but, investing some hard work/obsession really paid off. Thanks for the inspiration Jacopino!”

It’s the second ascent of the route. Remember that Babsi already climbed a sportclimbing route of this range with “Speed integral” in 2018.
