Des 9b à la pelle – 9b by the truckload

“9b est le nouveau 9a” : telle est la remarque effectuée par un de nos chroniqueurs après l’annonce de nombreuses réalisations en 9b ces derniers jours. En effet, une quarantaine de propositions sont désormais existantes (pour une douzaine de voies dans le 9b/+ et deux propositions annoncées 9c) et pour certains top grimpeurs comme Ondra, Megos, Bosi ou encore Ghisolfi, Bouin et Schubert, les réalisations de ce niveau relèvent presque maintenant de l’anecdotique…

Jonathan Siegrist répète “Stoking the fire” : à Santa Linya depuis quelques semaines, le grimpeur américain vient de réaliser la 6ème ascension de cette King Line de Chris Sharma (première ascension en 2013). C’est la 4ème voie de ce niveau pour Jonathan après “Jumbo Love”, “Planta de Shiva” et “Event Horizon”. Les français ne sont pas en reste, avec l’annonce de deux nouvelles premières ascensions sur notre territoire. Il fallait être roux pour performer dans le 9b dernièrement en France puisque Loic Zéhani propose sa voie la plus dure avec “Mossoul” 9b/+ à Orgon (Bergerie), 30 mouvements de résistance, tandis que Seb Bouin vient à bout de “Ariégeois cœur loyal” nouveau 9b dans la baume aux Escargots du Pic Saint Loup qui n’est autre que l’extension de “Légende”, un 9a libéré par Seb en 2017, toujours non-répété. Stefano Carnati nouveau venu dans le 9b coche lui “Erebor” (9b) à Arco, la 5ème ascension après Ghisolfi, Ondra, Rogora et Schubert. Il avait déjà plusieurs voies très dures à son actif comme “Demencia Senil”, “Jungle boogie” ou encore la célèbre “Biographie“.

Indeed, about forty are now available (for a dozen routes in 9b/+ range and two 9c propositions) and for certain top climbers such as Ondra, Megos, Bosi or Ghisolfi, Bouin or Schubert, the sands of this level are now almost anecdotal…

Jonathan Siegrist repeats “Stoking the fire”: In Santa Linya for a few weeks, the American climber just completed the 6th ascent of this King Line by Chris Sharma (first ascent in 2013). This is the 4th route of this level for Jonathan after “Jumbo Love”, “Planta de Shiva” and “Event Horizon”. The French are not missing, with the announcement of two new first ascents on our territory. You had to be red haired to perform in the 9b recently in France since Loic Zéhani proposed his hardest route with “Mossoul” 9b/+ in Orgon (Bergerie), 30 resistance movements for his hardest route, while Seb Bouin did the first ascent of “Ariégeois coeur loyal” new 9b in Pic St-Loup which is none other than the extension of “Légende”, a 9a freed by Seb in 2017, still unrepeated. Stefano Carnati newcomer in the 9b ticks “Erebor” (9b) in Arco, the 5th ascent after Ghisolfi, Ondra, Rogora and Schubert. He already had several very hard routes under his belt like “Demencia Senil”, “Jungle boogie” or the famous “Biography”.
