Dreamcatcher : c’est au tour de Michaela Kiersch ! – Dreamcatcher: it’s Michaela Kiersch’s turn!

Quelques jours après Paige Claassen, Michaela Kiersch vient de clipper le relais de “Dreamcatcher” et ainsi réaliser la seconde ascension féminine de la voie ! Cette classique extrême du site de Squamish (Canada) libérée par Chris Sharma en 2005 vient d’être enchainée par Michaela Kiersch, en guise de premier 9a. Cette voie, assez peu répétée vient de voir sa 8ème répétition en un plus de 15 ans. Voici ci-dessous son commentaire laissé sur les réseaux sociaux.

“Dreamcatcher” est un de mes rêves depuis que Chris Sharma a établi la première ascension en 2005. À vrai dire, pendant la plupart de ces années, cela m’a semblé hors de portée. Cela semble toujours surréaliste.
J’ai essayé cette voie il y a 3 ans et je ne pouvais pas vraiment faire les mouvements de manière facilement répétable. Avant ce voyage, je me suis concentrée sur l’augmentation de la force de mes doigts, de mon endurance et de BEAUCOUP de Güllich latéral. J’ai été capable de faire tous les mouvements le premier jour de ce trip, et j’étais ravie de commencer à empiler des sections plus longues. Après une forte pluie, la route était devenue une cascade. J’étais stressée par la météo (classique ici à Squamish) et je doutais de pouvoir la réussir avant de retourner en cours. Lors de mon 5ème jour, les prises étaient encore un peu suintantes. Cela a allégé une partie de la pression et j’ai décidé de simplement m’amuser et d’y aller. Et puis comme par magie, je clippais la chaîne de mon premier 9a.
“Dreamcatcher” a connu relativement peu d’ascensions, toutes masculines jusqu’à ce mois-ci. C’était magique de partager des moments sur la voie avec Paige Claassen, et de se sentir si bienvenue à ses côtés pour faire de mon mieux. C’était stimulant pour nous de pouvoir ajouter deux ascensions féminines à cette voie.
Cela m’a permis d’envisager de plus grands rêves, et je suis tellement reconnaissante pour tout le soutien que j’ai eu qui m’a aidée à en arriver là.”

Just a few days after Paige Claassen, Michaela Kiersch sent “Dreamcatcher”, the classic extreme line of Squamish, Canada, established by Chris Sharma in 2005. This powerful line saw few repeats in the first 15 years, but Michaela claimed the 9th ascent and the second female one. And this is the first 9a for Michaela! Here is the comment she left on social media.

“Dreamcatcher has been a dream of mine since Chris Sharma established the first ascent in 2005. Truthfully, for most of those years, it felt out of reach. It still feels surreal. I tried this route 3 years ago and couldn’t really do the moves consistently. Leading up to this trip, I focused on increasing my finger strength, endurance, and doing LOTS of sideways campusing. I was able to do all of the moves on my first day back and was excited to start piecing together bigger links. After a heavy rain, the route was a waterfall. I was stressed about the weather (classic Squamish) and doubted if I’d be able to send before heading back to school. On my 5th day, the holds were still a little seep-y. It alleviated some of the pressure and I decided to just have fun and go for it. Next thing I knew, I was clipping the chains of my first 5.14d/9a. Dreamcatcher has seen relatively few ascents, all by men until this month. It was magical to share moments on the route with Paige Claassen, and to feel so welcome to try my hardest alongside her. It feels empowering and momentous to add two female ascents to this climb. I’m inspired to keep dreaming up bigger dreams and so thankful for the many opportunities and support I’ve had which has helped get me to this place.“
