Escalade à Bakhchisarai, Crimée – Climbing in Bakhchisarai, Crimea (+video)

Voici ci-dessous un joli documentaire vidéo sur la grimpe  à Bakhchisarai en Crimée (Ukraine) avec la découverte du projet ultime du coin, “Max factor”. Les falaises de Bakhchisarai ont une longue histoire, il y a de très anciens villages troglodytes datant du 6ème siècle après JC et même un monastère  du 8ème siècle ! L’escalade est répartie sur 10 secteurs pour 300 voies. Les premières voies datent de 1989 après la première coupe du Monde d’escalade qui s’est déroulée non loin de là à Yalta. Il s’était déroulé alors un contest d’ouverture où des coachs et grimpeurs étrangers avaient été invités à ouvrir des lignes.

Après 1995, des grimpeurs de Simferopol découvrirent de nouveaux secteurs plus déversants qu’ils ont dédié à l’entrainement. Ils y développèrent de nouvelles voies mais la plupart ont été taillées. Cependant cela contribua au renouveau de la falaise, avec aussi la création de compétitions d’escalade en extérieur dans les lieux. Le plus grand ajout de voies à Bakhchisarai s’opéra en 2009. Deux festivals d’escalade ont eu lieu cette année là, organisés par le club de montagne de Crimée. Ils ont réuni plus d’une centaine de participants et ont grandement contribué à la popularité des lieux. Sergei Cherevko continua à développer les falaises grâce à l’aide d’autres grimpeurs et de magasin outdoor. Il réalisa aussi un grand travail pour obtenir des permission et des autorisations de la part des autorités locales et a créé un campement pour les grimpeurs. Les premières voies très dures (dans le 8c-9a) ont été équipées en 2012 et la petite dernière le projet “Max factor” a été équipée l’an dernier par Alexey Vlasenko. Bossée par Cette voie présentée par Sergey Shaferov dans la vidéo tournerait autour du 9a-9a+.

La falaise est devenue de plus en plus populaire ces dernières années en raison d’un grand nombre de voies faciles équipées. Il y a des faces Sud au soleil pour lézarder l’hiver et aussi des secteurs pour l’été. Tous les secteurs sont faciles d’accès à pied, avec différents styles de voies et encore un potentiel énorme ! The crags near Bakhchisarai have rich history. There are a lot of ancient cave towns (5th and 6th century and monastery (8th century) near this area. Also Bakhchisarai was a capital of Crimean Khanate (15th century). And till now people have their houses built right from and even incide of these rocks.

Now this climbing area has about 10 sectors and near 300 routes. First routes here were bolted in 1989 after the rock climbing World Cup stage which was held in Crimea near Yalta. Also there was a route setting master class from foreign coaches and local climbers were motivated to set some new lines.

After it in 1995 climbers from Simferopol discovered new sectors with overhanging crags and made some routes there as Sevastopol already had a climbing gym and they held competitions. So climbers from Simferopol built their own natural climbing gym for training. But there were not too many routes and most of them were with atificial holds. Also during this period in Bakchisarai they organised some local competitions and some more routes were bolted.
But main increase in number of routes started in 2009 . This year 2 climbing festivals were organized by Crimean mountain club and the main route setters were Sergey Cherevko (first talking guy in the video) and Evgeniy Ekimov. There were more than 100 participants on each festival and after it the popularity of the area went up. Then Sergey Cherevko continued developing the area with the help of other climbers and outdour shops. Also he did big work with getting permissions from local authorities of the town and built a camping site for the climbers. First hard routes (8c-9a) were bolted in 2012 (“Assa”, “Temptation”, “Sluchainoe yadro”). “Max Factor” route presented here was bolted by Alexey Vlasenko in 2017 and now Sergey Shaferov is working on it. This route may be about 9a – 9a+!

The area becomes more and more popular now because there are a lot of easy routes here. It has rocks in the sun for comfortable winter climbing and crags in the shade for summer. All the sectors are easy to get by foot. There are different types of routes (overhanging and verticals) and the potential of the area is still really big! Video below.
