Les cotations semblent volontairement avoir été mises en retrait pour pouvoir apprécier davantage la beauté de lignes et de la gestuelle. ainsi que la mise en scène du besogneux processus d’ouverture. Les dernières minutes du film sont consacrées au vice-champion du Monde amputé jambe Julien Gasc à travers une petite interview. Un clin d’oeil de Philippe qui a été un des principaux acteurs dans le développement de l’escalade handi. Bref, très plaisant à regarder, filmé et monté intégralement tout seul le film “Heart of line 2” de Philippe Ribière compile ce qui fait l’essence du bloc, le tout condensé en une demi-heure.

Month after month the movie documents his latest climbing trips often tagged along by famous top climbers. It shows great insights into a typical climbing session with strong climbers such as, Jimmy Webb trying the insanely difficult sit start to “The Big Island” in Font, Dave Graham mastering “Ill trill” in Magic Wood, french phenom -and notorious bare-foot boulderer- Charles Albert in the campus test piece “Off the wagon” and even some exclusive footage of Chris Sharma in his stunning deep water solo at the Pont d’Arc, in southern France. The film is marked by absence of words, with simple rushes of live outdoor climbing creating a very relaxing atmosphere. The second part of the film deals with Philippe’s latest developments of Chamiers, a bouldering crag in Ardèche, France. The movie depicts the process of finding a nice line, cleaning/brushing it and eventually unlocking a sequence allowing it to be climbed. No grades appear and the flick clearly focuses on the beauty of the lines and movement, as well as on the demanding aspects of putting up a new climb. The last minutes of the film are devoted to foot-amputee vice-world champion Julien Gasc through a small interview, which is a way for Philippe to reference his own story, as someone who has been among the main contributors to the development of para-climbing. In short, in his half an hour-long movie, Heart of line 2, Philippe Ribière captures the essence of bouldering. We thought it was well filmed and very pleasant to watch.
