Schubert joint le club du 9b+ – Schubert joins the 9b+ club

  • 09/11/2019

He had been trying for about 2 weeks, Austrian champion Jakob Schubert just did today his current project, “Perfecto Mundo” the very overhanging 9b+ of Raco de la Finestra, Margalef, Catalunya! The first ascent of this amazing line had been done by Alex Megos during Spring 2017. Italian beast Stefano Ghisolfi did the second ascent an year ago (video below). It’s Jakob first 9b+ after having sent 4 9b: “Fight or flight”, “Planta de Shiva”, “Neanderthal” and “Stoking the fire”. He enters the 9b+ club after Adam Ondra, Chris Sharma, Alex Megos and Stefano Ghisolfi.

“What a day, after failing four times after the crux, two days ago on the very last hard move above the lip, it was an incredible relief to clip the chain of this amazing line today!
At the beginning of this year I already had the goal to try sending this route this fall but to do so I told myself I got to qualify for the Olympics already at the WCH in Tokyo. After fulfilling this goal in the summer I rewarded myself to skip the last few Worldcups and focus on Perfecto Mundo instead and it all payed off.
The cherry on top was a quick ascent of Gancho Perfecto [9a/9a+] to end an already perfect day!”
