Décidément, le grimpeur autrichien Jakob Schubert est sur un nuage cette année avec la réalisation de “Neanderthal” 9b dans la grotte de Santa Linya après une semaine de travail. Ce n’est que la seconde ascension de cette voie libérée par Chris Sharma en 2009. Selon Escalade 9, cette voie de 40 mètres se décompose en 3 parties, un 7c de 20 mètres avant un 9a constitué de 4 pas de bloc autour de 7C chacun avant un repos et le pas sommital un jeté en 8A+ bloc (regardez Jakob dans l’enchaînement dans la vidéo ci-dessous).
C’est le 4ème 9b de Jakob après “Fight or flight”, “La planta de shiva” et “Stoking the fire”. Il y a quelques semaines, lors d’un autre trip catalan le champion autrichien avait aussi réalisé la seconde ascension de “El bon combat” et décoté l’affaire à 9a+/b. Il serait peut-être temps de passer à la vitesse supérieure le concernant !

The Austrian climber Jakob Schubert has been very impressive this year with the send of “Neanderthal” 9b in Santa Linya Cave today after a week of work. It’s the second ascent of this route freed by Chris Sharma in 2009. According to Escalade 9, this 40-meter line could be cut into 3 sections, a 20-meter 7c start followed by a 9a with 4 boulders around 7C, a rest and a huge dyno around 8A+ boulder (watch Jakob in this crux in the video below).
It’s Jakob’s 4th 9b after “Fight or flight”, “La planta de shiva” and “Stoking the fire”. A few weeks ago in another Catalan trip, the Austrian champion also did the second ascent of “El Bon combat” for a 9a+/b downgrade. It may be time to push his limits further!
