Shawn Raboutou, actuellement en Suisse a vécu une dernière semaine particulièrement magique avec tout d’abord la première ascension de “L’Oeuvre”, 8c+ ou 9a selon lui, sur le site de Bouddha au dessus de Martigny. Juste après, Shawn réalise assez vite la première répétition du toit de “Foundation’s” Edge” 8C, un plafond de Fionnay libéré en 2014 par Dave Graham. Hier, c’est encore la sensation avec la première ascension du départ bas du célèbre test de poutre de “Off the wagon” au Val Bavona. Cet enchaînement rajoute un blocage très physique et une mise en place compliquée au départ debout du problème (cf vidéo ci-dessous). Shawn propose 8C+ pour cet enchaînement qui s’avère être tout simplement la proposition la plus dure du pays depuis que “The story of 2 worlds low start” à Cresciano, longtemps considéré comme la version dure en 8C+ du 8C référence, a été soumis à la décote : suite à l’apparition de nouvelles séquences, le départ bas n’est désormais pas jugé rajouter une difficulté significative au 8C. C’est déjà le second 8C+ bloc pour Shawn qui avait coché en septembre “Creature from the Black Lagoon” à RMNP. Il avait aussi réalisé un peu plus tôt The “Finnnish line” 8C/C+ à Rocklands cet été ! Espérons qu’il profite de ce superbe état de forme pour remettre le harnais et tenter de concrétiser “First Round First Minute” à Margalef, voie dans laquelle il s’était investi ce printemps et qui doit trotter encore dans son esprit, tout comme dans celui de son pote Daniel Woods…

Then Shawn continued with the first repeat of “Foundation’s Edge” 8C opened by Dave Graham in 2014 in an impressive roof located at Fionnay. Yesterday, always on fire, he striked again with the first ascent of the low start of famous « Off the wagon » in Val Bavona. Shawn proposes 8C+ for this problem which is becoming the hardest boulder of the country. This link shares an insane first physical move from a gaston to a sidepull, followed by an akward hand and feet sequence for getting prepared to the stand start (watch the video up). It’s simply the hardest bouldering proposition of the country, « The story of 2 worlds low start» in Cresciano is quite downgraded now after new sequences and thoughts of other climbers who did some ascents. « Off the wagon » is Shawn’s second 8C+ ascent after his repeat of « Creature of the Black Lagoon » in RMNP in September. He also did ‘The Finnish Line » 8C/C+ this summer in Rocklands. We hope that Shawn will soon take advantage of this amazing shape to put his harness again and to try to finish « First Round First Minute » in Margalef, a project he attempted this Spring which should be again in his mind, like his buddy Daniel Woods.
