Stoking the fire 9b pour Sachi Amma – Stoking the fire 9b by Sachi Amma

  • 27/03/2019

After climbing some hard first ascents in his country last year, Japanese Sachi Amma is back in buisiness in Spain and just ticked “Stoking the fire” 9b, his current Winter project in Catalunya, a very steep 40 meters route in the most overhanging part of the cave. On the last day of his Christmas trip Sachi fell under the belay… No cigar… With a change in his mental approach and 3 months of training, the Japanese took his revenge yesterday. It’s the 4th ascent after Sharma, Ondra and Schubert and Sachi’s 3rd 9b (he has already done “Fight or flight” and “Soulmate”). At the end of last year, he was thinking about the process :

“I went through all the crux part which has about 25 powerful moves on my last go. I rested for a second and continued next less hard but pretty powerful part. I couldn’t push myself and fell in this section. It was very close to send. I let go myself as possible as I can. The moment I explode freely in the route is what I want more than anything. If I look for something missing, it is strong hope for sending. But every try was always new and joyful. And I believe this being made that try I got close to send happen. I come back next year to finish it!”

And now after the send:
“Since my last trip to this massive cave last December, this route was burning in me. I trained for 3 month because I wasn’t training my physical for long time. It worked pretty well on the route. But after twice heartbreaking fall on the middle part, I noticed I am not prepared for this super long steep wall. I continued to adapt and adjusting in the route. And finally it happened!”
