Les grosses cotes ont la cote… Tour d’horizon des dernières coches.
Fort d’avoir tout juste enchainé “Alphane” (candidat potentiel à la cote de 9A), Will Bosi profite de sa forme du moment pour sortir en deux temps trois mouvements “Ephyra”, un 8C+ ouvert à Chironico par Jimmy Webb en 2019 (vidéo de la FA ci-dessous). On n’arrête plus l’Écossais volant, qui cette année compte tant de blocs extrêmes qu’on s’y perd, avec en point d’orgue sa première ascension cet été de “Honey Badger“, donné à 8C+ aussi dans le Peak District. Celui-ci lui semble d’ailleurs plus dur que “Ephyra”.
Pour les anglophones, Bosi s’est plié à un entretien fort intéressant avec le BMC où il parle cotations, tendances en bloc extérieur et autres.
Aidan Roberts, second ascensionniste de “Alphane” et avec qui Bosi était lorsqu’ils ont travaillé le bloc, vient de réaliser une ligne en projet. Il s’agit du départ assis de “Vecchio Leone” à Brione, qu’il propose à 8C+ et baptise avec originalité “Vecchio Leone SS” (pour “sit start”, pas autre chose). Dans son post Instagram, le britannique explique avoir posé des devis dans quelques blocs assez futuristes.
Enfin, dans un coin italien bientôt topoïsé (Tintorale), Elias Iagnemma se fend lui aussi d’une FA, en 8C/+, avec “Utopia”.

The big number boulders are in vogue. Let’s review the latest ones.
Having just sent ‘Alphane’ (potential candidate to the 9A grade), Will Bosi keeps riding the send train to make a quick ascent of ‘Ephyra’, an 8C+ opened back in 2019 by none other than Jimmy Webb in Chironico. The Scotsman seems unstoppable at the moment, who this year has claimed so may extreme boulders it’s easy to lose count. Chief amongst them, his first ascent of ‘Honey Badger‘ this summer in the Peak, to which he gave the grade of 8C+. And compared to which he finds ‘Ephyra’ a bit easier.
Bosi gave a very thoughtful and interesting interview with the BMC where he discusses grading, outdoor bouldering trends and more.
Aidan Roberts, the second ascentionnist of ‘Alphane’ and with whom Bosi was when they worked the boulder, has just taken down a long-standing project: the sit start version of ‘Vecchio Leone’ in Brione. He proposes 8C+ for it and gave it an original name, ‘Vecchio Leone SS‘. In his Instagram post, Roberts reports he has found some futuristically hard lines to get back to.
Finally, in a little corner of Italy yet topoless (Tintorale), Elias Iagnemma also claimed an FA, 8C/+, with ‘Utopia’.
