Focus sur la première répétition d’une voie dure en Haute-Savoie, “Les rats sous-marins” (autour du 9a) en compagnie de Baptiste Dherbilly. La première ascension de cette voie a été réalisée par Mathieu Holtz en août 2018.
“Au printemps 2018, je découvre cette voie sur la falaise de Bellosset. Une vraie ligne oubliée, seul indice sur le topo : 8b? Je commence le déchiffrage et malgré un rocher de face nord plutôt glissant et peu attrayant du sol, cette ligne s’avère être une véritable pépite à la gestuelle variée ! Je passe une dizaine de séances pour déchiffrer les méthodes mais aussi les clippages. Ces derniers sont délicats, difficile de lâcher une main dans toute la section en compression. A l’automne 2018, je parviens enfin à trouver la solution pour des vrais essais. Je pense alors pouvoir enchaîner cette voie, après une trentaine de séances je me retrouve encore et toujours pendu dans le baudrier… Inlassablement rattrapé par la gravité dans les derniers mouvements… La voie devient alors une vraie bête noire, je ne trouve pas de solution. Finalement après 1 année de pause dans la voie je reviens avec un œil nouveau pour régler mes comptes. Je trouve un ultime réglage dans mes méthodes. Ce dernier s’avère salvateur. Après une trentaine de séances et pas loin de 100 montées, j’arrive enfin à clipper le relais de cette voie à l’automne 2019. Vraiment beaucoup d’émotions indescriptibles que j’ai voulu garder pour moi sans trop parler de cet enchaînement. Je vous partage maintenant ces quelques images. La cotation de 9a a été proposée par Mathieu Holtz, auteur de la first ascent. Personnellement cette voie va bien au-delà de la cotation et je ne serais pas assez objectif pour annoncer quoi que ce soit. Avis aux répétiteurs !”

“In the Spring of 2018 I discovered this line at the Bellosset crag. It’s a completely forgotten route, with only one bit of info in the topo: ‘8b?’ I started to decipher it and despite the North-facing rock, rather slippery and not really sexy from the ground, the line turned out to be a real gem with really varied moves! I spent 10-ish sessions trying to work out the beta but also the clips. These ones are tricky, it’s hard to let go of a hand in the whole compression section. By the Autumn of 2018, I finally managed to find the solution and started to try to redpoint it. I thought I would soon be able to send, but 30 sessions later I was still finding myself hanging in my harness… Invariably caught up by gravity in the last moves… At that point the route became my nemesis, I just couldn’t find the way. Eventually, after forgetting it for a year I got back on it with fresh eyes, intent on revenge. I found the very last tweak in my methods. And that tweak was my saving grace. After 30 sessions or so and close to a hundred tries, I finally managed to clip the chains in the Autumn of 2019. It was a lot of indescribable emotions that I wanted to keep for myself, without really mentioning my redpoint. But now, I’m sharing with you these images. Mathieu Holtz, the first ascentionist, suggested 9a. From a personal perspective this route went far beyond the grade and I would not be detached enough to give one myself.
