Deux belles ascensions féminines en Suisse – Two great female ascents in Switzerland

*** Shauna Coxsey réalise un nouveau 8B+ avec “Hazel Grace” !
Shauna Coxsey est clairement la bloqueuse en forme de cette première partie d’année. La retraitée des compétitions internationales britannique et jeune maman et revenue très fort ce printemps, et coche déjà son 3ème 8B+ bloc en deux mois (son 4ème en tout) avec “Hazel Grace” au col du Gothard en Suisse, un bloc ouvert par Giuliano Cameroni en 2017 qui combine force dans les doigts avec une traversée sur une fissure, mouvements gainants et tournants avec notamment une contrepointe pour rejoindre une arête. Shauna montre que ses limites sont forcément au-dessus, et se rapproche d’Alex Puccio (6 réalisations en 8B+) et Isabelle Faus (8 réalisations). On rappelle que 7 grimpeuses ont déjà réalisé du 8C bloc : Garnbret, Shiraishi, Lehmann, Ishi, Svecova, Raboutou et Lamb.

*** Marine Thevenet et le 8B, la routine aussi !
Marine démarre la saison à Magic Wood avec une répétition assez rapide de “One summer in paradise” qui est une rallonge de départ du célèbre panneau à réglettes de “Pura Vida” (8A+/B), connu pour avoir été le premier 8B féminin mondial en 2008 par Babsi Zangerl avant de subir une légère décote. Un bloc qui demande une tenue de prises démoniaque (cf vidéo ci-dessous) et qui sied bien aux filles, avec une douzaine d’ascensions pour “Pura Vida” et 6 réalisations féminines pour “One summer in paradise”, ce qui en fait un des blocs diificiles les plus prisés par les grimpeuses avec “Fragile Step” à Rocklands ou encore “The Automator” et “Nuthin’ but sunshin” aux US… Vous trouverez la vidéo de l’ascension de Marine en bas de l’article.

*** Shauna Coxsey climbs a new 8B+ with “Hazel Grace”!
Shauna Coxsey is clearly the top-form boulderer of the first half of this year. The retired British international competitor and young mother has come back very strongly this spring, and already claimed her 3rd 8B+ boulder in two months (her 4th overall) with “Hazel Grace” on the Gotthard Pass in Switzerland, a boulder opened by Giuliano Cameroni in 2017 which combines finger strength with a traverse on a crack, body tension and balancy moves including a tricky toe hook to reach an arete. Shauna shows that her limits are inevitably higher, and comes close to Alex Puccio (6 8B+ sends) and Isabelle Faus (8 8B+ sends). 7 climbers have already claimed 8C: Garnbret, Shiraishi, Lehmann, Ishi, Svecova, Raboutou and Lamb.

*** Marine Thevenet and the 8B, routine too!
Marine kicks off the season at Magic Wood with a fairly quick ascent of “One summer in paradise”, which is an extended start of the famous “Pura Vida” (8A+/B), known for having been the first women’s 8B in the world in 2008 by Babsi Zangerl before suffering a slight downgrade. A boulder that requires demonic crimp power (watch video above) and is well-suited to girls, with a dozen sends for “Pura Vida” and 6 female ascents for “One summer in paradise”, making it one of the most popular extreme boulders for female climbers, along with “Fragile Step” at Rocklands and “The Automator” and “Nuthin’ but sunshin” in the US… You’ll find the video of Marine’s climb just below.
