Dans la famille Soulé, je voudrais… le frère cadet ! En effet, Léo, jeune frère de Mattéo, ne demeure pas moins mordu de l’escalade que le reste de la famille. Un véritable jeune passionné, surnommé “Mr Topo” tellement il connait par cœur les ouvrages concernant ses sites préférés. Posez lui une devinette sur le topo, il sera incollable ! La passion, le travail et le talent payent toujours, avec la réalisation de son premier 8c à l’âge de 13 ans : “Résistance” à Cantobre, près de la maison. Une voie équipée par son père Pierre il y a quelques années (!), assuré par son grand frère Mattéo, seuls à la falaise pour profiter des créneaux du soir avec le thermique ! La voie débute par une partie de résistance physique avant de rejoindre le premier crux de “Chaquaito” (un 8b+), un beau mouvement à l’horizontale avec une spatule pied-main, et un 2ème crux sur une petite arquée main gauche pour aller chercher une fourchette, que Léo a réussi à tenir en mono. Le happy end d’un an de labeur depuis la première visite ; après être tout calé à la rentrée et une quinzaine d’essais à toujours tomber dans la fin du premier crux, Léo a enchainé la voie, se payant le luxe de ne jamais tomber dans le deuxième crux (clairement le plus dur de la voie) ! Bref un bel effort de résistance avec une sacrée section à doigts pour finir (“Chaquaito” n’étant pas le 8b+ le plus répété de la falaise…), et donc un super premier 8c de référence ! Bravo !

In the Soulé family, I’d like to mention…the younger brother! Léo, Mattéo’s younger brother, is no less a climbing enthusiast than the rest of the family. A true young enthusiast, he’s nicknamed “Mr Guidebook” because he knows all the guides on his favorite places by heart. If you ask him a topo question, he’ll know what he’s talking about! Passion, hard work and talent always pay off, with the achievement of his first 8c at the age of 13, with “Résistance” at Cantobre, at home, a route bolted by his father Pierre a few years ago (!), belayed by his older brother Mattéo, alone at the cliff to take advantage of the evening sessions with the thermic! The route offers a physical resistance section in the first part before reaching the first crux of “Chaquaito” (the 8b+) with a beautiful horizontal movement with a foot-hand toe-hook and a 2nd crux on a small left-hand crimp to reach a fork, which Léo managed to hold in mono. It was the happy end of a year’s hard work since the first visit, and after setting everything up at the start of the season and about fifteen attempts always falling at the end of the first crux, Léo arrived to complete the route, affording himself the luxury of never falling on the second crux (clearly the hardest part of the route)! In short, a great effort of resistance, with one hell of a finger section to finish with (“Chaquaito” not being the most repeated 8b+ on the cliff…), and therefore a great first 8c reference! Well done!
