La saison est lancée dans le Yosemite, et le jeune crack du trad US Connor Herson (21 ans) vient de réaliser une belle croix avec la réalisation de Magic Line à Vernal Falls. Cette fine fissure granitique de 35 mètres à été libérée pour la première fois par Lonnie Kauk ; c’est une des lignes de trad parmi les plus dures des US (estimée autour de 8c+, avec un 8A bloc en pas de départ, une suite en 8a et un 7C bloc en pas sommital). “Magic Line” offre une escalade très technique, les pieds à plat, tout en verrou et en opposition. Connor n’aura pas attendu la collante pour répéter l’affaire, libérant l’itinéraire à son premier essai en tête de la saison, à son 2ème jour de travail cette année. A noter que la voie est un tout petit peu plus difficile en raison d’une prise de pied qui a cassé (si si, apparemment il y a des pieds !). Il avait déjà libéré “Empath” ou encore “Meltdown”, “Cobra crack” et “Destiny”, il lui faudra bientôt ouvrir des lignes pour proposer de nouveaux challenges en fissure en Amérique du Nord, et proposer une nouvelle dimension concernant l’extrême dans ce style ! The season is starting in Yosemite, and young US trad crack Connor Herson just completed a great achievement with a repeat of “Magic Line” at Vernal Falls. This fine 35-metre granite crack was first freed by Lonnie Kauk, and is one of the hardest trad lines in the US (estimated at around 8c+, with an 8A boulder in the start, a continuation in 8a and a 7C boulder as top crux). “Magic Line” is a highly technical, flat-footed climb on a smooth wall, all about finger locks and opposition. Connor didn’t wait for the sticky conditions to repeat the route, freeing the route on his first lead attempt of the season, on his 2nd day of work this year. Note that the route is a little more difficult due to a broken foothold (yes, apparently there are footholds!). He’s already repeated “Empath”, “Meltdown”, “Cobra crack” and “Destiny”, and he’ll be soon opening up lines to offer new crack climbing challenges in North America, trying to add a new dimension to the extreme in this style! Amazing!
