Janja Garnbret a de nouveau frappé un grand coup en falaise, réussissant flash la voie de pure conti athlétique « Pure Dreaming » dans le plafond de Massone (Arco, Italie) en marge du Rock Master. Equipée par Alfredo Webber, « Pure Dreaming » est une variante de sortie de gauche du 8c de « Reini’s vibe » Libérée et proposée à 9a par Adam Ondra en 2018, la voie a été proposée davantage à 8c+ par les différents répétiteurs en raison de la présence de coincements de genoux, alors que le tchèque n’avait pas utilisé les genouilllères pour la première ascension. Depuis, des prises ont cassé et Janja a flashé la ligne sans poser aucun genou, donc nous pourrions considérer qu’elle est la 3ème personne au monde à être arrivé à flasher du 9a ou plus après Adam Ondra et Alex Megos. Elle, modestement annonce 8c+ avec un point d’interrogation et un smiley sur son compte Instagram.
« Janja a discuté avec Michele Caminati pendant quelques minutes, principalement du crux du bas, et je pense qu’elle a finalement utilisé des méthodes différentes. Elle n’a pas regardé de vidéos avant de se lancer, et aucune méthode ne lui a été donnée pendant qu’elle grimpait. Je pourrai dire que c’était plus ou moins à vue. Janja a carrément avalé la voie facilement, excepté 2 courtes sections où elle a du batailler un peu plus » commente Bjorn Pohl, journaliste de Climbing Intelligence Agency présent sur place. Le style de la falaise de Massone réussit bien à Janja qui avait déjà réalisé il y 2 ans une répétition éclair du 9a classique voisin « Underground ». A travers les années, la double championne olympique slovène semble se tourner davantage vers le milieu extérieur, traduisant dehors son incroyable niveau remarqué en compétition dans d’incroyables faits d’armes, elle qui domine le circuit mondial depuis près d’une décennie. 8C bloc en 3 coups de cuillère à pot avec « Bügeleisen », premier 8c à vue féminin de l’histoire à Oliana ou deux 8c à vue dans la journée à Osp,… Après avoir travaillé quelques jours « Bibliographie » à Céüse ces deux derniers étés, tentant de mettre la barre très haut dans l’exercice après-travail malheureusement pour l’instant de manière infructueuse, mais une chose est sûre, c’est que concernant le à vue et le flash, ses limites sont bien plus loin, et on ne devrait pas attendre bien longtemps avant d’assister au premier 9a féminin à vue mondial !

Janja Garnbret striked once again at the crag, flashing the purely athletic “Pure Dreaming” route on the Massone roof (Arco, Italy). Bolted by Alfredo Webber, “Pure Dreaming” is a left-hand exit variation of the 8c “Reini’s vibe.” Freeed and graded 9a by Adam Ondra in 2018, the route was graded more like 8c+ by various repeat climbers due to the presence of knee bars, even though the Czech climber had not used knee jams for the first ascent. Since then, some holds have broken and Janja flashed the line without using her knees, so we could consider her to be the third person in the world to flash 9a or higher after Adam Ondra and Alex Megos. She modestly announced 8c+ with a question mark and a smiley face on her Instagram account.
« Janja talked with Michele Caminati for a couple of minutes, but basically only about the lower crux, I think, and she ended up using different beta. She didn’t watch any videos, and she didn’t get any beta while climbing. I would say it was more or less onsight. She totally cruised it with ease, except for a couple of short sections where she had to fight a bit. » said Bjorn Pohl, a journalist from Climbing Intelligence Agency who was there.
The style of the Massone cliff suits Janja well, who two years ago made a lightning repeat of the neighboring classic 9a “Underground.” Over the years, the Slovenian double Olympic champion seems to be turning more toward outdoor climbing, translating her incredible level of competition into incredible feats outdoors, having dominated the world circuit for nearly a decade. An 8C boulder in three attempts with “Bügeleisen,” the first female 8c onsight in history at Oliana, and two 8c onsights in one day at Osp… After working on “Bibliographie” in Céüse for a few days over the last two summers, trying to set the bar very high in the redpoint exercise, which has unfortunately been unsuccessful until now, but one thing is certain: when it comes to onsight and flash climbing, her limits are much further away, and we shouldn’t have to wait long before we see the first female 9a onsight in the world!
