Adam Ondra est actuellement en Roumanie, plus précisément à Baile Herculane dans les Carpates dans le cadre de séances photos. Il a dérouillé dimanche “Black cobra extension” une ligne de 35 mètres au secteur Waterfall, un nouveau spot prometteur qui se situe au km 12 de cette gorge qui est blindée de calcaire. La voie débute par une première partie en 8b avant de se durcir dans un style très résistant (cf essai en vidéo ci-dessous). C’est le premier 9a du pays. Jusqu’alors la voie la plus dure de Roumanie était un 8c !
Le mutant tchèque ne s’est pas arrêté là puisqu’il a également réalisé hier la première ascension d’un 9a+ sur cette même barre, “Stone butterfly” (ici en photo), une ligne équipée par la légende autrichienne Gerhard Hörhager qui compile 3 pas de bloc très athlétiques, environ un 8c+ suivi d’un 8A bloc. C’est donc en moins de 48h qu’il fait passer le monde de l’escalade roumain de 8c a 9a+ puisque “Stone butterfly” devient le premier 9a+ de Roumanie ! Vidéo ci-dessous !
On rappelle que chaque année depuis plus d’une décennie le “Herculane Climbing Open” permet de dynamiser la grimpe ici avec de nouveaux spot défrichés pour les besoin de cette compétition conviviale en milieu naturel. Il se tiendra encore cette année courant septembre.
Adam Ondra is currently in Romania, more specifically in Baile Herculane in the Carpathian mountains as part of a photo shooting. On Sunday, he crushed and made the first ascent “Black Cobra extension” a 35 meters line of in the sector Waterfall, a promising new spot which is located at km 12 of this gorge which is loaded with high-quality limestone. The route begins with an 8b to start the first part before getting harder in a very resistant style (video below).
The hefty Czech did not stop there since, yesterday he also made the first ascent of a 9a+ on the cliff wall, “Stone butterfly” (pictured here), a line bolted by the Austrian legend Gerhard Hörhager who compiles 3 very athletic and bouldery moves : an 8c+ into a 8A boulder. It’s the first 9a+ of the country and before Adam ascents the hardest route in Romania was an 8c. So in less than 48h that Romanian climbing grade came from 8c to 9a+). Video below!
As each year for more than a decade the “ Herculane Climbing Open ” allows to develop climbing there with new area cleaned for the need of this friendly competition outside. It will be held again this year in September.
