C’est un classique de Chironico qu’a réussi à cocher Clément Lechaptois le week-end dernier avec la répétition de “From dirt grows the flower” 8C, un bloc iconique des lieux ouvert par Dave Graham en 2005. “From dirt” est un pavé imposant de 7 mètres de haut, avec un dévers très à doigts suivi d’un réta sur plats des plus techniques : un véritable bloc complet ! Une nouvelle réalisation d’ampleur pour le français, qui empile les 8C. On rappelle que Clément avait clôturé 2022 avec “Fuck the system” à Fionnay en guise de 1er 8C+.
– Pourquoi selon toi ce bloc est-il un gros classique de Chironico ?
Pour moi ce bloc est un classique car il a été ouvert il y a quasi 20 ans par Dave et a connu finalement assez peu de répétitions. Le réta est hyper caractéristique et finalement assez unique pour le Tessin. Le début est aussi spécial en son genre car tu dois grimper toute une section sur des prises en cristal, c’est vraiment classe de trouver les bonnes préhensions sur ces prises.
– Quelle est la partie la plus dure du bloc, réta ou dévers ?
Pour moi le réta a été plus dur à appréhender que le bas qui me convenait mieux. Après, une fois que j’ai finalement trouvé mes sensations et que j’ai bien calé le réta est allé assez vite. Mais c’est la partie qui m’a pris le plus de temps à maîtriser.
– “Ephyra” à côté, ça te tente ?
“Ephyra”, oui ça me tente mais c’est clairement morpho. Il faudrait que je trouve de nouvelles méthodes !
– Tu disais travailler “Alphane”, comment ça se passe ? Des progrès ?
Oui ça avance pas si mal. Tout est calé et je commence à taper de bons essais, j’espère avoir assez de temps pour essayer de me rapprocher d’un enchaînement cette saison.

A new achievement of magnitude for the Frenchman, who stacks up the 8Cs. As a reminder, Clément closed 2022 with “Fuck the system” in Fionnay, his 1st 8C+.
– Why do you think this boulder is such a classic of Chironico?
For me, this boulder is a classic because it was opened almost 20 years ago by Dave and has had relatively few repetitions. The mantle is very characteristic and ultimately quite unique for Ticino. The beginning is also special in its own way because you have to climb a whole section on crystal holds, it’s really cool to find the right purchase on these holds.
– What is the hardest part of the boulder, the mantle or overhang?
For me, the mantle was harder to ‘get’ than the bottom, which suited me better. Afterwards, once I finally found my beta and I got the mantle down to a ‘t’, it went pretty quickly. But this is the part that took me the longest to master.
– “Ephyra” next door, are you psyched to try?
“Ephyra”, yes I’m tempted but it’s clearly morpho. I would have to find new methods!
– You said you were working “Alphane”, how is it going? Any progress?
Yeah it’s not that bad. Everything is set and I’m starting to hit some good tries, I hope I have enough time to try to get closer to sending this season.
