Jimmy Webb est en Europe depuis la fin du mois de janvier avec pour plan initial de passer 5 semaines en forêt de Fontainebleau et de faire tomber plusieurs projets dont “The Big Island” assis. C’est en février 2016 lors de la réalisation de son départ debout que Jimmy Webb avait commencé à s’intéresser sérieusement au départ assis. Essayé de nouveau au printemps 2017, le bloc restait invaincu. Jimmy a assez rapidement réussi à refaire le départ debout (il y a environ 3 semaines) mais les conditions compliquées de la région parisienne (pluie et neige) ne lui ont pas permis de réussir le départ assis alors qu’il était proche de l’enchaînement . On notera tout de même deux belles coches avec le départ assis de ‘‘Ph13’’ 8B à l’Envers d’Apremont et ”Saruman du bas’’ 8B également au fond du Cuvier Est.
Le grimpeur américain est descendu en Suisse et coche un autre vieux projet à Cresciano, ”Dreamtime” 8C. “Il y a 4 ans, j’ai passé d’innombrables journées à essayer le bloc. Ce fut une énorme bataille mentale et physique pour moi et ça m’a tué de ne pas pour pouvoir l’enchaîner. C’est avec une perspective différente aujourd’hui que j’ai pu sortir la ligne durant mon premier jour sur place. Les mots peuvent difficilement décrire le sentiment de cocher quelque chose sur la liste des choses à faire pendant sa vie Jj’ai eu besoin de me poser pendant un moment et de penser à tous ce que bloc représente pour moi. Un grand merci à Fred Nicole pour avoir été un pionnier en ouvrant un bloc aussi incroyable et me permettre ainsi d’en profiter presque 18 ans plus tard.” Pour mémoire, le bloc ouvert par Fred Nicole en 2000 a vu une de ses prises cassée en 2012 ce qui a eu pour conséquence de remonter la difficulté initiale.
Jimmy Webb has been in Europe since the end of January with an initial plan to spend 5 weeks in the forest of Fontainebleau and to sent several projects including “The Big Island” sit-start. It was in February 2016 during the realization of the standing start that Jimmy Webb had begun to take a serious interest in the sit-start. Tried again in the spring of 2017, the boulder remained undefeated. Jimmy quickly managed to redo the standing start (about 3 weeks ago) but the complicated weather conditions of the Paris region (rain and snow) did not allow him to succeed the all sequence despite he was close to send it. He still managed two beautiful sends in the forest with the sit start of ” Ph13 ” 8B at Envers d’Apremont and ” Saruman du bas ” 8B also at Cuvier.
The American climber then went down to Switzerland and ticked another old project in Cresciano, ” Dreamtime ” 8C. “Well when our original plans of spending 5 weeks in Fontainebleau got buried by snow we decided to make a quick trip to Ticino before heading back home to the US. The weather looked beautiful and I was super motivated to climb and enjoy the sun. On the first day we went to Cresciano where I re visited an old project of mine. 4 years ago I spent countless days trying this thing and was never able to put it to rest. It was a massive mental and physical battle for me and it killed me to not be able to complete it. Fast forward now 4 years and with a different perspective I was able to complete the line on my first day back. Words can’t really describe the feeling of topping out something on your life list and I had to sit there for a while and reflect on what this single rock meant to me. Massive thanks to Fred Nicole for pioneering such an incredible boulder so that I can enjoy it almost 18 years later.” For the record, the boulder opened by Fred Nicole in 2000 got one of its holds broken in 2012 which has had the consequence of raising the initial grade.
