Au terme de 18 mois de bataille, Elias Iagnemma vient de réussir la quatrième ascension de “Burden of Dreams”, le premier 9A de l’histoire. Après une longue disette suite à la première en 2016 par Nalle Hukkataival, il semblerait que le blocage mental et/ou physique ait bel et bien vécu. L’année dernière Will Bosi et Simon Lorenzi rétablissaient au sommet du gros galet, et d’autres paraissent proches, tels que Shawn Raboutou ou encore, de façon plus surprenante peut-être, un Stefano Ghisolfi plus affûté que jamais.
On notera la nouvelle méthode utilisée par Elias, que l’on peut voir ici : un talon gauche rapidement essayé par Will Bosi puis abandonné, suivi d’un croisé de main ainsi qu’un final typé “indoor” (celui-ci pas dans la vidéo).
Il s’agit de son premier 9A, après deux 8C+ (“Ganesh” et “Gioia”) et plusieurs 8C.
Le 9A se “démocratisant”, on se demande quand la prochaine étape sera franchie, et par qui.

Following 18 months of battle, Elias Iagnemma has just successfully completed the fourth ascent of “Burden of Dreams”, the first 9A in history. After a long drought following the first ascent by Nalle Hukkataival in 2016, it seems that the mental and/or physical block has indeed passed. Last year Will Bosi and Simon Lorenzi topped the big pebble, and others seem close, such as Shawn Raboutou or, perhaps more surprisingly, Stefano Ghisolfi who looks sharper than ever.
Note the new method used by Elias, which we can see here: a left heel quickly tried by Will Bosi then abandoned, followed by a cross of the hands as well as a typical “indoor” finish (this one not in the video).
This is his first 9A, after two 8C+ (“Ganesh” and “Gioia”) and several 8Cs.
With more and more 9As being climbed, the question of when the next step will come is becoming more acute.
