Le polyvalent grimpeur slovène Jernej Kruder est capable de briller autant en compétition, bloc naturel ou falaise, qu’en deep-water et grande-voie. Jernej vient de nouveau de faire parler de lui avec une rare répétition d’un classique des Dolomites: “Pan Aroma” 8b+, 550m dans la face Nord du Cima Ovest di Lavaredo. C’est Alex Huber qui avait réalisé la première ascension de cette grande-voie en 2007. Elle emprunte les 5 premières longueurs de “Bellavista”, que Jernej avait cochée l’an dernier, avant d’emprunter la partie la plus surplombante de la face. Il raconte comment cela s’est passé sur les réseaux.
Il y a 2 week-ends, je me suis rendu au Tre Cime pour rencontrer mon ami Mirco Dell’Osta, qui était là avec moi l’année dernière, quand j’ai réussi “Bellavista”. Cette fois je me suis concentré sur “Panaroma”, une version plus dure dans ce grand toit de Cima Ovest. Il partage le même départ que “Bellavista” pour atteindre le toit et le premier crux de la longueur dure démarre après avoir bifurqué à droite. J’ai seulement essayé cette longueur clé de 50 mètres de long en 8b+ lors d’un court voyage avec Hannes Puman, où j’ai réussi à faire tous les mouvements. Aller de relais en relais n’a pas été facile. Bien qu’elle soit équipée, vous devez grimper fort et vous engager entre les points, sinon une longue chute vous attend.
Maintenant, quand je suis revenu avec Mirco mes attentes n’étaient pas très élevées, mais je savais aussi quelque part au fond de moi qu’il y avait une petite chance de le faire. Nous n’avons eu aucun problème pour accéder au toit et les conditions étaient très bonnes pour les Tre Cime. J’ai commencé à grimper dans le toit et me suis retrouvé au-dessus du premier crux. J’avais quand même 40 mètres d’escalade encore à réaliser, mais j’avais la tête légère et j’ai réussi à contrôler la daubante dans mes avant-bras jusqu’au relais. Mais la voie n’était pas encore terminée. Une autre longueur de 20 mètres qui, à mon avis, est autour du 8a+/b (à l’origine 8c) se trouvait au-dessus de moi. Je ne l’avais essayée qu’une seule fois avec Much Mayr il y a quelques semaines. Je ne la trouvais pas trop dure, mais je savais aussi que je n’allais pas grimper de manière parfaitement fluide dedans. Quoi qu’il en soit, l’excitation était là et j’ai commencé à grimper. Au premier mouvement dur, mon pied a glissé, et une seconde plus tard, j’étais à 10 mètres sous le point, suspendu dans le vide. J’ai pompé au Jumar, répété les mouvements, je me suis reposé et j’y suis retourné. D’une manière ou d’une autre, je suis devenu assez nerveux lors de mon deuxième essai, j’étais pas mal pété et je me suis retrouvé dans la corde pour la deuxième fois. Je suis alors devenu très nerveux et je n’arrivais pas à trouver le bon état esprit pour me remettre sur la bonne voie. Après un court break, j’ai tout donné et avec les grosses bouteilles, j’ai réussi à atteindre le relais. J’étais exténué, mais heureusement, la suite de la voie était assez facile pour arriver au sommet.
Cet itinéraire ne voit pas beaucoup de répétitions, et le réussir si vite signifie tellement pour moi. Je sens que mon esprit se renforce pour les grandes-voies, et j’ai hâte de voir ce que l’avenir nous réserve !”
All-rounder Slovenian climber Jernej Kruder is capable of feats as much in competition as in bouldering or rock climbing, deep-water or multi pitch routes. Jernej struck again with a rare repeat of a Dolomite classic, “Pan Aroma” 8b+, 550m on the North Face of the Cima Ovest di Lavaredo. Alex Huber made the first ascent of this multi-pitch route in 2007. It follows the first 5 pitches of “Bellavista”, which Jernej had ticked last year, before climbing the most overhanging part of the face.

“2 Sundays ago, I drove alone to Tre Cime to meet with my friend Mirco Dell’Osta, who was there with me last year, when I sent Bellavista. This time, my focus was on Panaroma, a harder version in this great roof of Cima ovest. It shares the same start with Bellavista to get to the roof and the first crux of the hard pitch before it turns to the right. I only tried this 50 meters long and 8b+ hard pitch on a short trip with Hannes Puman, where I managed to do all the moves. To get from the anchor to anchor wasn’t easy. Although it’s bolted, you have to climb hard and commit between the bolts, or a long fall awaits for you.
Now, when I returned with Mirco, my expectations were low, but I also knew somewhere deep inside me that there was a small chance of doing it. We had no problems getting to the roof, and the conditions were very good for Tre Cime. I started climbing the roof, and soon, I was over the first crux. Still, 40 metres of climbing was in front of me, but my head was light, and I managed to control the pump in my forearms. Soon, I found myself on a belay. But the route is not finished here yet. Another 20 meters pitch, which, in my opinion, reaches the grade of 8a+/b (originally graded 8c) was upon me. I only tried it once with Much Mayr some weeks ago. Didn’t feel too hard, but also, I knew I’m not too fluid on it. Anyway, the hype was high, and I started to climb. On the first hard move, my foot slipped, and a second later, I was 10 meters below the bolt, hanging in the void. Jummared up, repeat the moves, took a rest, and I was back on it. Somehow, I got nervous on my second try, got super pumped, and ended up in the void for the second time. Now, I became nervous and couldn’t find the right mind to get back on track. After a short brake, I gave it all in, and with cramps in my arms, I managed to reach the anchor. I was tired AF, but luckily, the route was fairly easy to get to the top.
This route doesn’t get many repetitions, and sending it so fast means so much to me. I feel my mind is getting stronger on big walls, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings.“
