On connaissait “Kmira”, “Beyond intégral“, “Ariégeois cœur Loyal” (ACL) – toutes non-répétées-, et voici que Seb Bouin propose un nouveau challenge extrême dans la grotte du Pic St-Loup (Hérault). Le grimpeur pro vient de réaliser la première ascension des “Rois du lithium”, proposant de nouveau 9b. Seb avait équipé la ligne le printemps dernier, après son ascension d'”ACL” 9b. Voici ses mots.
“Cette partie du mur m’attirait depuis longtemps. Depuis le sol, “Les Rois du Lithium” semblait être la ligne parfaite. Tout droit dans le mur avec une fin de 20m hardcore. Quand je l’ai équipé, je ne pouvais pas imaginer qu’il y aurait autant de prises parfaites. Et quand je l’ai essayé pour la première fois, j’ai été stupéfait par les mouvements et la ligne. « Les Rois du Litthium » est divisée en deux parties. Il y a une approche facile autour de 8b qui permet d’accéder à la partie principale. Et puis, il y a cette magnifique partie d’endurance de force qui compte 22 mouvements durs d’affilée. La ligne et les mouvements sont très plaisants. Chaque essai est un plaisir. C’est comme surfer sur une vague. “Les Rois du Lithium” est probablement ma voie en 9b préférée. La difficulté rencontre la beauté ici. Et il y a quelque chose de plus : c’est amusant. L’aspect ludique est très important dans un projet difficile. Quand on aime l’effort, quand taper un essai est une source d’inspiration, on sait qu’on a choisi le bon projet. J’ai essayé cette voie pendant l’automne 2023. J’étais très enthousiaste à l’idée de terminer le travail ce printemps. J’avais besoin de temps pour apprendre correctement les 22 mouvements difficiles. Il n’y a pas de place pour l’erreur. Le dernier mouvement difficile est vraiment époustouflant. A partir de deux mauvaises épaules, il faut attraper une arquée plate main gauche et prendre un ballant avec. Je suis tombé plusieurs fois là-haut. Il y a un autre projet difficile et inspirant au Pic Saint Loup : le projet « Wolf kingdom ». Il sera plus difficile que “Les Rois du Lithium”. Continuons le combat !”

The pro climber just completed the first ascent of “Les rois du lithium”, proposing a new 9b. Seb bolted the line last spring, after his ascent of “ACL” 9b. Here are his words.
This part of the wall has attracted me for a long time. From the ground, “Les Rois du Lithium” looked like the perfect line. Straight through the wall with a 20m-long hardcore finish. When I bolted it, I couldn’t imagine there would be many perfect holds. But when I first tried it, I was amazed by the moves and the line. “Les Rois du Litthium” is basically split in two parts. There is an easy approach around 8b / 5.13d tiring you before the main part. And then, there is this beautiful power endurance section totalling 22 hard moves in a row. The line and the moves are so fun. Every try was a pleasure. It’s like surfing a wave. “Les Rois du Lithium” is possibly my favorite of the 5.15bs I have climbed. The difficulty meets the beauty here. And there is something more: it’s fun. The fun factor is quite important on a hard project. When you like the effort, when riding the rock is inspiring your, you know you’ve got the right project. I tried this route during the fall of 2023. I was so psyched to finish the job this spring. I needed time to learn the 22 hard moves properly. There is no room for mistakes. The last hard move is so stunning: From two bad gastons, you have to reach a left-hand sloppy crimp and take a swing from it. I fell a few times up there. There is another hard and inspiring project in Pic Saint Loup : The “Wolf kingdom”. It will be harder than “Les Rois du Lithium”. Let’s continue the fight !
