Un nouveau 9b non loin de Margalef ! Le grimpeur anglais expatrié en Catalogne Tom Bolger vient d’en finir avec le dernier projet qu’il restait à libérer dans une grotte à la Bisbal de Falset (proche de Margalef) où il avait été le premier à lancer l’équipement, et où existait déjà “Pink Patatas” (9a+), une voie dure libérée par Alex Megos fin 2022 et dont Tom avait réalisé la première répétition. Ainsi “E.L.L.I.E” 9b est né, une voie hybride mi bloc mi-voie, un peu comme l’enchainement “Ali Hulk extension” à Rodellar.
“Pour les mathématiciens, cela ressemble à un 8A+/B bloc dans un 7C+/8A bloc dans un 8c+ voie. C’est très gros dévers, comme le reste des voies du secteur. Je suis curieux de voir des gens essayer et savoir ce qu’ils en pensent” décrit-il sur son compte Instagram, rushs vidéos à la clé.
Ainsi “E.L.L.I.E” est la 5ème ouverture en 9b du coin après “FRFM”, “Artaburu”, “The Full journey” et “Cafe Solo”, juste derrière la célèbre ligne la plus dure du spot catalan, “Perfecto Mundo”.

A new 9b around Margalef! English climber Tom Bolger just completed the last remaining project in a cave located at Bisbal de Falset (close to Margalef) where he was the first to start bolting, and where “Pink Patatas” (9a+) already existed, an hard route freed by Alex megos at the end of 2022 that he did the first repeat. Thus “E.L.L.I.E” 9b was born, a hybrid route half boulder and half route, a bit like the “Ali Hulk extension” route in Rodellar.
“For the mathematicians out there it works out at 8A+/B Boulder – into an 7C+/ 8A Boulder into an 8c+ route … it’s a Lot of steeeeepppp climbing . As it is with all routes it’s my opinion , I’m well psyched for people to try this thing and see what they think !”
So “E.L.L.I.E” is 5th 9b of the area after “FRFM”, “Artaburu”, “The Full journey” and “Cafe Solo”, just behind the Catalan spot’s famous hardest line, “Perfecto Mundo”.
