Seb Bouin libère DNA 9c, son grand projet de La Ramirole – Seb Bouin frees DNA 9c, his mega project of the Ramirole Cave

  • 05/05/2022

Since July last year, Seb Bouin has been working alternately on two projects, the now-notorious Bibliography in Céüse and his ultimate first ascent project, which he bolted himself at the Ramirole crag, in the Verdon Gorges. He just sent the latter, which he named DNA. Seb had bolted it 3 years ago and in a long post on instagram explains the process and how it took him probably about 250 tries over 150 days in the route to eventually get the FA.

The route consists in an 8c+ introduction, followed by two consecutive boulder problems of ~8A+ in difficulty, before what he describes as a concentrated short 8c+ sequence over 5 quickdraws. In addition to the physical and mental challenge that this route represented he also had to deal with wet tufas until last November, making the process even more complicated. Seb suggests the surreal grade of 9c for this 50 meter-long super overhanging beast, while reminding us that it remains only a suggestion and he invites climbers to come and give it a try. He compares it to Bibliography in Céüse and, although the latter may not be his preferred style, Bouin thinks DNA is physically more demanding.

Note that many other notably hard FAs at La Ramirole by Seb are still awaiting a repeat, namely “La Rage d’Adam”, “La Côte d’Usure”, “L’homme demain” and “Parajito”. If he is right, DNA might well be the hardest sport climb in the world alongside Ondra’s famous “Silence”. (the second 9c proposition, ‘Bibliographie’, has been downgraded) Stay tuned for more.

Magnifique perf!
