Seb Bouin répète Pachamama 9a+/b – Seb Bouin repeats Pachamama 9a+/b

  • 06/03/2019

Seb Bouin just climbed “Pachamama” 9a+/b in Oliana, one of his projects for this winter. This king line bolted by Chris Sharma is 50 meters long, located in the central overhang. It provides a sustained climbing on one of the best rock of the crag. This gem has the reputation to be very demanding, harder than the neighbouring “Joe mama” and “Papi Chulo”. Here are Seb’s first words :
This line is for me one of the best in Oliana (or the best). Thanks, Chris Sharma for bolting it. Luckily I didn’t fall in the last slab. I’m happy to add my name to this short list: Chris Sharma, Sachi Amma, Jonathan Siegrist, Jakob Schubert, Adam Ondra, Patxi Usobiaga (watch the video of Patxi below). About the grade, it could be a hard 9a+ – 5.15a (some climbers proposed 9a+/b – 5.15a/b). I will have to think about it for a day. Anyway, this line is beautiful and needs more repeats. I first tried the route last year, but conditions were miserable, it was wet all the time. This year I did “Pachamama” during my second trip (one or two weeks long). Nothing really hard, just some stamina and resistance, and of course some crux sections where you need to push hard. The principal difficulty of this route is to get enough resistance I mean. It’s ok for me, it suits me well.”

“Pachamama” is the 7th route 9a+ and harder ticked by Seb, and the 3rd 9a+/b after “Chilam Balam” and “Les yeux plus gros que l’antre”. When will he join the 9b club? May be this spring, with a upcoming trip in Flatanger scheduled in June. Let’s wait and see…
