On attendait plutôt Margo Hayes ou Anak Verhoeven, c’est finalement l’autrichienne Angela Eiter qui réalise le premier 9b féminin ! Angie a réalisé la 3ème ascension de “La Planta de Shiva” à Villanueva del Rosario (Andalousie) après Adam Ondra et Jakob Schubert. Un bel accomplissement pour la championne autrichienne (Quadruple championne du Monde) qui à 31 ans, réalise sa 4ème voie dans le 9ème degré après “Hades”, “Era Vella” et “Big hammer” toutes 9a. Après une première partie en 8c/c+, la voie qui fait 45 mètres de long au total, propose une furieuse section très résistante sur prises éloignées dans un énorme dévers au rocher très compact.
Son mari Bernie Ruech commente : “Angy a essayé pour la première fois il y a deux ans la première partie de la voie en 8c et l’a réalisée à son 4ème essai. Elle savait que la seconde partie (principalement des arquées) était de la pure résistance, un domaine dans lequel elle excelle. Le style lui plaisait vraiment, c’est pour cela qu’elle s’y est attelée, Si elle pouvait essayer et réaliser un 9b, c’était celui-là.”

We were thinking about Margo Hayes or Anak Verhoeven, it’s finally the Austrian Angela Eiter who sets the first female 9b! Angela just did the third ascent of “La Planta de Shiva” in Villanueva del Rosario (Andalusia) after Adam Ondra and Jakob Schubert. A nice achievement for the Austrian champion (4 times world champion), 31 years old, who sents here her 4th 9th grade route with “Hades”, “Era Vella” and “Big hammer” all 9a. “La Planta de Shiva” is 45 meters long, after a 8c+ as first part, the crux is a very resistant and very overhanging section in a compact rock.
Her husband Bernie Ruech comments : “Angy tried the route two years ago. She did the first pitch (8c) on her fourth try. She knew that the second pitch (mainly crimps) which is a pure power endurance route could suite her well. That’s why she tried the moves and after she told me she really loves that style and if there’s a 9b she wanted to try then, this is exactly what she’s looking for.”
