Super production américaine sous le coude, Shawn Raboutou présente un nouveau bloc extrême qu’il a réalisé au Colorado : “Megatron”, qu’il propose à 9A. Ce bloc perdu à Eldorado Canyon n’est autre que le départ bas de “Tron”, un 8B+ très puissant ouvert par Daniel Woods qui remonte une proue déversante sur des verticales et inversées. Essayé sans succès par les cracks du bloc US comme Woods, Webb ou encore Ruana, “Megatron” rajoute 8 mouvements autour du 8C bloc au départ debout avec un crawl final sur un talon précaire et un ballant pour rejoindre le départ de “Tron” : un mouvement qui semble d’une difficulté inouïe avec un caractère aléatoire assez important, dur à maîtriser. C’est finalement Shawn qui bouge le mieux et finit par rétablir le premier au sommet de “Megatron”, suggérant de nouveau 9A, la 5ème proposition après “Burden of dreams”, “Soudain Seul”, “Return of the Sleepwalker” et “Alphane”. À voir si comme “Alphane”, certains grimpeurs essaieront de répéter rapidement l’affaire et donner leur ressenti sur le niveau, Will Bosi jugeant “Alphane” moins difficile que “Honey Badger”, un 8C+ qu’il a établi dans le Devon. En tout cas, la cotation de 9A bloc/V17 semble de moins en moins taboue et des propositions de ce niveau qui il y a quelques années auraient semblé illégitimes se développent doucement grâce à des acteurs comme Shawn Raboutou, qui repousse un peu plus loin les barrières physiques et mentales du possible en escalade ! Intéressant !

On remarquera que la tendance actuelle pour les ouvertures extrêmes en bloc est aux enchainements surphysiques longs et aux rallonges de blocs durs déjà existants (“Megatron”, “Return of Sleepwalker”, “Soudain Seul”, “Alphane”). La recherche du mouvement ultime, telle la quête de Nalle Hukkataival dans “Burden of dreams” ou dans les projets de Charles Albert, semble maintenant assez rare, à l’exception peut-être de “Off the wagon”.
