La Suissesse Kathy Choong vient de rajouter une nouvelle grande-voie dure à sa liste déjà faramineuse avec la première féminine de « Piz Dal Nas », une grande voie située sur la face Nord du Titlis (Endelberg, Suisse) ouverte par Matthias Trottmann en 2010. La ligne fait près de 500 m de long et l’ascension a été réalisée par Kathy dans la journée, accompagnée de son compagnon Jim Zimmermann. Voici les infos diffusées par Kathy à ce sujet !
« Le 10 août dernier, j’ai enchaîné les 12 longueurs de cette grande-voie unique (7a, 6b, 6c, 6b+, 6a, 7b+, 6c+, 7b+, 8b, 8b, 7b, 8a+) située sur la face nord du Titlis, équipée (2008-2009) et libérée par Matthias Trottmann en 2010, puis répétée par le Slovène Jernej Kruder. Il s’agit donc de la 3ème ascension et de la première féminine.
Ce fut une véritable épopée : de nombreux jours passés à déchiffrer les crux des longueurs 9 et 10 (toutes deux cotées 8b), un orage violent qui nous a surpris à mi-parcours lors de notre première journée dans la voie, de longs passages engagés avec très peu de points d’assurage dans les longueurs du bas qui te vident mentalement et physiquement, sans oublier les multiples allers-retours de la longue approche bien raide… Et cette dernière longueur, le « nez » au vu de sa forme, dans un dévers à 45 degrés, suspendu 500 mètres au-dessus du vide !
Après une blessure au doigt ce printemps et me sentant loin de ma meilleure forme, je doutais de pouvoir tenir de si petites prises ou de grimper une voie aussi longue et exigeante. Mais c’est ça, la magie de l’escalade : parfois, tout s’aligne. Avec le soutien indéfectible de Jim, un nouveau rêve est devenu réalité.
Un immense merci à Jim, qui est passé tout près de l’enchaînement malgré la chaleur et les mains moites : on y retournera pour lui ! Et un grand respect à Matthias l’équipeur pour avoir ouvert cette ligne du bas et l’avoir enchaînée : quelle performance ! J’ai enchainé toutes les longueurs dans le 8e degré en tête, nous avons grimpé en réversible les autres, et j’ai passé au total 10 jours dans la voie. »

Swiss climber Kathy Choong has just added another difficult multi-pitch route to her already impressive MP ticklist with the first female ascent of “Piz Dal Nas,” a multi-pitch route on the north face of Titlis (Endelberg, Switzerland) opened by Matthias Trottmann in 2010. The route is nearly 500 m long and Kathy completed the climb in a single day, accompanied by her partner Jim Zimmermann. Here is the information shared by Kathy.
« On August 10, I completed the 12 pitches of this unique multi-pitch route (7a, 6b, 6c, 6b+, 6a, 7b+, 6c+, 7b+, 8b, 8b, 7b, 8a+) located on the North face of Titlis, equipped (2008-2009) and first climbed by Matthias Trottmann in 2010, then repeated by Slovenian Jernej Kruder. This is therefore the third ascent and the first by a woman.
It was a real epic: many days spent deciphering the cruxes of pitches 9 and 10 (both graded 8b), a violent storm that caught us halfway through our first day on the route, long challenging sections with very few bolts in the lower pitches that drain you mentally and physically, not to mention the multiple trips back and forth on the long, steep approach… And that last pitch, the “nose” given its shape, on a 45-degree overhang, suspended 500 meters above the void!
After injuring my finger this spring and feeling far from my best, I doubted I could hold such small holds or climb such a long and demanding route. But that’s the magic of climbing: sometimes everything falls into place. With Jim’s unwavering support, a new dream came true.
A huge thank you to Jim, who came very close to completing the climb despite the heat and sweaty hands: we’ll go back for him! And huge respect to Matthias, the route setter, for opening this line from the bottom and completing it: what an achievement! I completed all the pitches in the 8th grade while leading, we climbed the others in reverse mode, and I spent a total of 10 days on the route. »
