Il y a un an, les courageux pouvaient se dire qu’Adam Ondra était un grimpeur exceptionnel, mais que son « point faible » tenait au bloc. Ok, « Terranova », 8C+ réussi par ses soins en 2011, n’est toujours pas répété et Bosi a déjà suggéré qu’il pourrait bien s’agir du premier 9A. Qu’à cela ne tienne: après ce fait d’armes, Ondra s’était tenu éloigné du plus haut niveau du bloc pour se concentrer sur la corde.
Était-il trop « faible » pour perfer en bloc? Se posait-il lui-même la question ? Il faudrait le lui demander. Toujours est-il que depuis son rétablissement en haut de « Soudain seul », 9A, à Fontainebleau en février 2025, et apparemment convaincu par le premier flash d’un 8C en juillet 2025 aux mains de Yannick Flohé, le Tchèque semble décidé à rattraper son retard.
Résultat de ce changement de focale assez inattendu, en ce début mars 2026 Adam Ondra compte la bagatelle non pas d’un, non pas de deux, mais trois 8C flash… « Foundation’s Edge » en novembre, puis à peine mars entamé, le Adaminator s’offre « The Lion’s share » puis « Celestite », à trois jours d’intervalle, sans compter les 8C deuxième essai et autres réjouissances. Allô quoi !
Le Tchèque a également posé un devis dans « Alphane », 9A, mais une douleur au genou causée par certains mouvements du bloc l’a forcé à se contenter de modestes pis-allers: flasher des 8C. Pour être honnête, il n’a jamais caché son amour pour le flash et le à-vue, et avant de se lancer dans le bloc extrême, il s’était déjà assuré la première place en escalade avec corde, avec un flash en 9a+ et 4 (!!!) 9a réussis à-vue.
À l’aune d’un Stefano Ghisolfi portant le bonnet aujourd’hui, Ondra est-il en train de virer sa cuti ? Qui sait, le Tchèque pourrait bien être en train de planifier le premier flash d’un 8C+ (sachant que « Celestite » avait été proposé à 8C+ mais que Pietro Vidi et Adam sont d’accord sur la décote)! Quoi qu’il en soit, les pendules sont à nouveau à l’heure concernant le cygne noir qu’est Ondra: il n’est plus trop faible en bloc.

A year ago, a brave person could say that Adam Ondra was an exceptional climber, but that his ‘weak point’ was bouldering. Okay, ‘Terranova’, 8C+, which he completed in 2011, has still not been repeated, and Bosi has already suggested that it could well be the first 9A. As a result of this rather unexpected change of focus, at the beginning of March 2026 Adam Ondra has not one, not two, but three 8C flashes to his name… ‘Foundation’s Edge’ in November, then barely into March, the Adaminator tackled ‘The Lion’s Share’ and then ‘Celestite’ within three days of each other, not to mention 8Cs sent second go and other feats. Hello!
The Czech climber also attempted ‘Alphane’, 9A, but knee pain caused by certain moves on the boulder forced him to settle for modest consolation prizes: flashing 8Cs. To be fair, he has never made it a secret that he does love flashing/onsighting, and before his foray into extreme bouldering first goes, he did secure the top spot on the ropes, with a 9a+ flash and FOUR 9a onsights.
With Stefano Ghisolfi wearing the beanie today, is Ondra changing his tune? Who knows, the Czech climber could well be planning the first flash of an 8C+ (bearing in mind that ‘Celestite’ was proposed at 8C+ but Adam downgraded it)! In any case, the clocks are back on time for the black swan that is Ondra: one may now opine that he is no longer too shabby at bouldering.

Adam affirme que la méthode de Dave Graham (premier à réaliser le bloc) est un peu plus dure que la sienne.
« Celestite has never been on my mind as a candidate for a flash try. I mean, looking at a video of the absolute kneebar master and wizard himself, Dave Graham, who put up the first ascent of this incredible boulder, it doesn’t look flashable at all. I was there with Pietro Vidi and Giuliano Cameroni, who showed me all the beta and I set off for my flash try, with nobody, including me, really expecting that I would get very far on this boulder. But somehow, I felt all the body positions really well, my kneepads were sticking and even though my biceps were about to give in, all of a sudden I was on the lip, not really knowing what to do and with my hands being really sweaty. Luckily, I kept together and made it to the top. Regarding the grade, we agreed with Pietro, who did it a few days before me, that the boulder is 8C.
