Quand les compétitrices quittent le plastique une fois la saison des coupes du monde terminée, les blocs durs n’ont qu’à bien se tenir ! Mais pas que : Siara Fabbri est chercheuse au CERN à plein temps, pourtant elle aussi fait parler la poudre quand elle délaisse l’anti-matière pour la belle matière minérale de Fionnay. La scientifique vient de rétablir au sommet de “Compass North”, 8B+. Ayant découvert l’escalade à 21 ans, Siara, 30 ans aujourd’hui, n’en est même pas à son galop d’essai à ce niveau puisqu’elle avait réalisé “New Base Line”, 8B+ aussi donc, l’année dernière.
Ce bloc mythique de Magic Wood vient justement d’être enchainé par une Janja Garnbret juste rentrée de la plage, après une mise en jambe faite de deux 8A et trois 8A+, dont un flashé.
Outre-atlantique c’est la rivale-amie de Janja, Brooke Raboutou, qui s’illustre en répétant “Box Therapy”, quelques jours après la FFA du bloc par Katie Lamb. La décote proposée par Brooke de 8C+ à 8C ne va pas passer inaperçue. Pour l’anecdote son frère l’a aussi réalisé quelques minutes plus tôt ou tard, et les pareurs n’étaient autres que leurs parents, Didier Raboutou et Robyn Erbesfield. A-t-on déjà vu famille aussi grimpante?
Pour finir, petit clin d’œil à Jana Švecová, la tchèque qui projette le 8C+ de 2012 de Adam Ondra, “Terranova”. Une vidéo de son ascension de “Roof der Widnis”, 8B+ en novembre dernier vient de sortir.

But not only them: Siara Fabbri is a full-time researcher at CERN, yet she too makes her outings count when she abandons anti-matter for the beautiful mineral matter of Fionnay. The scientist has just topped out “Compass North”, 8B+. Having discovered climbing at 21, Siara, 30 today, is not even on her trial run at this level since she sent “New Base Line”, also 8B+, last year.
This legendary block of Magic Wood is back in the limelight with a quick ascent by Janja Garnbret. She ticked the line having just returned from the beach, after a warm-up made of two 8A and three 8A+, including one flashed.
Across the Atlantic it is Janja’s rival-friend, Brooke Raboutou, who responded to the call by repeating “Box Therapy”, a few days after the FFA of the line by Katie Lamb. The downgrade proposed by Brooke from 8C+ to 8C will not go unnoticed. For the record, her brother also climbed the boulder a few minutes earlier or later, and the spotters were none other than their parents, Didier Raboutou and Robyn Erbesfield. Have we ever seen such a climbing family?
Finally, a little nod to Jana Švecová, the Czech woman projecting Adam Ondra’s unrepeated 8C+ from 2012, “Terranova”. A video of her ascent of “Roof der Widnis”, 8B+ last November has just been released (see above).
