Les légendes ne meurent jamais. Ce dicton semble s’appliquer au grimpeur californien Chris Sharma, 42 ans, qui a connu cette année un come-back remarqué sur le devant de la scène de la haute-difficulté en escalade sportive avec la première ascension d’une des voies les plus difficiles de Siurana, “Sleeping Lion” 9b+ en mars. Le King vient de récidiver en réalisant la première ascension d’un projet en deep-water solo vieux de 4 ans à Port de Soller, sur la côte Ouest de Majorque, proposant “Black Pearl”, et annonçant qu’il s’agit de sa réalisation la plus difficile dans le style ! On rappelle que Chris Sharma est un pionner du psicobloc à Majorque, ayant déjà proposé “Es Pontas” ou encore “Alasha” estimées autour du 9a.
Dans une interview sur Climbing, Chris donne des précisions sur la ligne, qui rétablit à 40 mètres au-dessus de l’eau ! La voie se situe quelques mètres à gauche de “Big Fish” (8c+) une voie que Chris a établi en 2017. Le crux de “Black Pearl” commence par une série de réglettes avant un dynamique en croisé dans un superbe tridoigt main gauche niché tout seul au milieu du dévers, pour une section en 7C bloc après un 8c d’approche et avant un 8a/+ pour finir dans la partie sommitale, où il ne vaut sûrement mieux pas tomber au vu de la hauteur… Chris a dû trouver des conditions plus froides pour réussir, ne pouvant pas recaker dans la section du crux, d’où la réalisation assez tardive pour la saison de deep-water, en milieu d’automne. Il estime l’ensemble autour du 9a+. On vous laisse apprécier l’intensité du crux dans la vidéo ci-dessous, avant un probable passage ultérieur au Reel Rock !

This saying seems to apply to Californian climber Chris Sharma, 42, who this year enjoyed a remarkable comebackin the hardcore sportclimbing scene with the first ascent of one of Siurana’s most difficult routes, “Sleeping Lion” 9b+ in March. The King just repeated the feat by making the first ascent of a 4-year-old solo deep-water project located at Port de Soller, on Mallorca’s West coast, proposing “Black Pearl”, and announcing that it is his most difficult achievement in the discipline! Chris Sharma is a pioneer of DWS in Mallorca, having already proposed hard climbs like “Es Pontas” and “Alasha”, estimated at around 9a.
In an interview on Climbing, Chris gives details of the line, which finishes 40 meters above the water! The route lies a few meters to the left of “Big Fish” (8c+) a route Chris established in 2017. The crux of “Black Pearl” offers a series of crimps before a dyno into a superb left-hand tri fingerpocket alone in the middle of the overhang, for a crux section around 7C boulder after an 8c approach and before a scary 8a/+ to finish in the summit part, where it’s probably best not to fall given the height… Chris had to find colder conditions to succeed, as he couldn’t chalk too much on the crux section, at the end of the deep-water season here, in mid-autumn.
