Le King de retour dans le 9b+ ! – The King is back in the 9b+!

  • 31/03/2023

Exactly 10 years after the ascent of his first 9b+, King Chris Sharma returns to 5.15c and announces the first ascent of “Sleeping Lion”! Bolted by himself, this route goes straight up the blue overhang of the mythical El Pati sector of Siurana, a sector known among other things for the legendary “Rambla” as well as “Estado Critico”, the first 9a onsight in climbing history.

We no longer need to introduce Chris, who has been considered the best climber in the world since his send of the 9a+ “first 5.15 ever” “Biographie” in Céüse, until a certain Adam announced the first 9b+ in 2012. The transfer of power had been made official when Chris had joined him in the grade by sending “La Dura Dura” on March 23, 2013, after a long fight and a friendly duel with the young Ondra, who grabbed the first ascent of the line a month ahead of Chris. This March, the King therefore confirms his return to the deep end, he who had clipped the chains of the neighbouring route “La Reina Mora” (9a) last December: after a few years busy with his family and climbing gyms, the lion is roaring again in the upper echelons of the ninth degree! His last King line “El bon Combat” (9b) dated back to 2015!

Chris had to fight for nearly a year and a half before being able to announce the send of this project. Fortunately for him, he now lives very close to Siurana! With this feat, the King joins the very private club of climbers who have achieved at least two 9b+, the other members being Ondra, Megos, Ghisolfi and Bouin.
