Frankenjura: Lena Herrmann s’offre Sangri-La – Frankenjura: Lena Herrmann ticks Sangri-La

  • 29/05/2023

Lena Herrmann Sangri-La

It’s starting to be Frankenjura season, and Lena Hermann, known for being the first girl in the 8c+ Franken with “Battle Cat” (2016) made another achivement last week. Lena did the first female ascent of very fingery “Sangri-La” (8c+) in Schlaraffenland, in the South-East of the forest. This very short and explosive line was freed in 1995 by Guido Kotermeyer. Here is Lena’s post on social media.

Last week I finally succeeded on this route which turned out to be my nemesis AF – this beautiful climb, first ascented in 1995 by guido.
Despite quite some trying-breaks because of weather-issues, unfitness, or injuries, the route never left my head and has always been my number one goal.
The journey was SO emotional with quite some experiences. Beside great sensations I also often struggled and doubted myself regularly. Also I overestimated my abilities for quite some time and underestimated how demanding the route is after passing the Boulder in the beginning. Like this I put so much pressure on myself. But I did not give up on it what makes me so proud🥹.
In the end, a change of training and habits (in the first place) were huge gamechangers, what brought me from little-chance to top-hold-drops:
I started to deal with all my emotions I’ve had on the crag differently what took pressure away from me (but it was sometimes a little annoying for my friends I guess). I also started training myself in a quite different way in great places like @zugzwangboulderhalle and @kletterzentrum_in. Acompanied by my friends, it made me close this chapter!”
