Nous vous l’avions relaté à plusieurs reprises ici ou là, les Grampians, un des berceaux de l’escalade en Australie est sous le coup d’une interdiction totale pour l’escalade. Malgré la mobilisation des grimpeurs locaux à l’image du photographe réputé Simon Carter, la situation ne fait que se dégrader, et sous prétexte de peintures et gravures aborigènes, les administrateurs du parc national sont en passe d’interdire définitivement pas moins de 80% des sites du massif, que ce soit en bloc, en trad ou en escalade sportive.
Le top grimpeur finlandais Nalle Hukkataival se mobilise cette semaine et incite les grimpeurs à écrire à la direction du parc national de l’état de Victoria pour demander le maintien des sites de grimpe accessibles. Voici son post sur Instagram :
“Comme vous le savez peut-être, aux Grampians d’Australie – probablement un des meilleurs sites d’escalade au monde – l’escalade est interdite de toute part. Cette interdiction d’escalade a été largement combattue par le biais d’organisations et de tous les canaux légaux, en vain.
Maintenant, un nouveau plan de gestion pour les parcs est en attente d’approbation. Ce plan, s’il est approuvé, FERMERA au moins 94% des zones de bloc et 80% de toutes les escalades cordées. Dévastateur.
Ceux d’entre vous qui ont grimpé aux Grampians et qui savent à quel point cet endroit est spécial, et ceux d’entre vous qui n’y ont pas encore été mais qui rêvent de faire un jour un voyage là-bas, c’est un moment décisif.
Merci de nous aider en envoyant un e-mail à : parkplan@parks.vic.gov.au pour leur faire savoir que ce plan de gestion du parc interdisant l’escalade dans presque toutes les zones de grimpe est inacceptable et qu’une meilleure solution doit être trouvée. Même un e-mail rapide les aidera à savoir que cette interdiction affecte négativement un grand nombre de personnes. La date limite pour le plan de gestion est dans quelques jours. Tout e-mail les informant que le plan de gestion doit être révisé sera utile.
Cet endroit me manque tellement et je détesterais vivre dans un monde où les autres grimpeurs n’auront pas la chance de découvrir cet endroit incroyable.”

As we reported here and there, the Grampians, one of the birthplaces of Australian climbing, is threatened with a total ban on climbing. Despite the rallying of local climbers, including that of renowned photographer Simon Carter, things are heading in the wrong direction. Under the pretext of aboriginal paintings and sculptures, the administrators of the National Park are about to get a ban on 80% of the area’s crags, whether in bouldering, trad or sport climbing.
Top Finnish climber Nalle Hukkataival is this week trying to get people to write to said administrators in the state of Victoria to keep the climbing areas accessible. Here is his post on Instagram:
“As you may know, the Grampians in Australia – possibly the best climbing area in the world – banned climbing out of nowhere. This climbing ban has been fought extensively through organizations and every legal channel to no avail. Now, a new management plan for the parks is up for approval. This plan, if approved, will CLOSE at least 94 % of the bouldering areas and 80 % of all roped climbing. Devastating.
Those of you who have climbed in the Grampians and know how special this place is, and those of you who have not yet been but dream of making a trip one day, this is a deciding moment.
Please, PLEASE help out by sending an email to parkplan@parks.vic.gov.au letting them know that this park management plan closing climbing in nearly all climbing areas is unacceptable and that a better solution must be found. Even a quick email will help to let them know that this ban affects a large number of people negatively.
