Il était dessus depuis quelques temps, Cédric Lachat a réalisé hier la 4ème ascension en libre de “WoGü” dans le Rätikon (Suisse). Cette voie équipée par Beat Kammerlander en 1997 en hommage à Wolfgang Güllich propose 350 mètres d’escalade très techniques et soutenus avec un terrible 8c, et deux longueurs en 8b+ très dures en guise de longueurs clé.
“WoGü” a été libéré par Adam Ondra en 2008 et depuis seuls Edu Marin et Roland Hemetzberger avaient jusqu’alors réussi le challenge. Sur place depuis quelques semaines pour son projet de film “Swissway to heaven“, Cédric a réussi la journée parfaite ce mardi soir sans tomber, réussissant chaque longueur au premier essai.
“Nous sommes sur place avec Nina Caprez et une équipe de tournage depuis 3 semaines. Le problème a été de trouver des conditions. Soit il faisait très chaud, rendant la grimpe impossible dans des longueurs si difficiles et techniques, soit c’était mouillé. Après le défrichage de la voie, je n’avais pu effectuer que 2 tentatives jusqu’alors… Hier il y avait enfin du vent et un temps frais, et j’ai pu faire le run parfait avant la nuit, en partant dans la voie à 17h30, avec toute les longueurs direct au premier essai. Pour réussir, il faut arriver à vaincre cette L3 et ce crux sous la chaîne du 8c sans lâcher d’essai, car sinon ensuite tu es trop fatigué pour la suite. Beat est un visionnaire, un mutant d’équiper une telle ligne et de libérer les longueurs à l’époque. Cet enchaînement est aussi l’accomplissement d’un beau travail d’équipe avec Nina qui m’a beaucoup aidé sur cette affaire. Merci à elle ! Un court métrage dédié à “WoGü” sortira l’an prochain en plus de “Swissway to heaven”. J’ai hâte de partager cette expérience en images avec vous !”
“WoGü” vient compléter un beau CV en grande-voie pour le fougueux grimpeur helvète : “Orbayu”, “Silbergeier”, “Fly”, “Zahir”, “Yeah Man”, “Free rider” à vue… Cette rare ascension en libre d’une des musts du Rätikon marque la fin de la dernière étape du projet de film de grande voies de Cédric. Jusqu’à de nouvelles aventures…

Cédric Lachat just did the 4th free ascent of “WoGü”, located in Rätikon, Switzerland. This line bolted in 1997 by Beat Kammerlander is a tribute to Wolfgang Güllich: 350 meters of technical and very sustained climbing with an 8c and 2 hard 8b+ like key pitches.
“WoGü” was first freed by Adam Ondra in 2008 and since only Edu Marin and Roland Hemetberger have succed too. Cédric’s goal was to conquer “WoGü” as highlight of his Swiss multipitch film project “Swissway to heaven“. Cédric gave a perfect push yesterday, leading all the pitches first go without falling.
“We are here with Nina Caprez and my film crew since 3 weeks. The main problem was to deal with conditions. Sometimes too hot, sometimes wet, it was quite impossible to climb all these technical and hard pitches. After some scoping sessions, I could just do 2 push attempts before. Yesterday the weather was fresh and windy and I could send before the night, after starting to climb at 5.30 pm, all the pitches went first go. You need to send at your first try this bouldery 8c (L3) if you want to have some chances to free climb the route because if you fall you are too tired fo the other difficulties. This key pitch is tricky and bouldery at the top, just under the anchor. Beat is a beast and an visionary person to have bolted and free climbed these pitches in the 90’s. My send is also the result of a good team work with Nina Caprez. Thanks to her! A short film about “WoGü” will be released next year in addition of my film project “Swissway to heaven” also sheduled for 2021.”
“WoGü” is a nice addition to Cédric’s multipitch tick list: “Orbayu”, “Silbergeier”, “Fly”, “Zahir”, “Yeah Man” “Free rider” onsight,… This rare repeat of one of Rätikon extreme testpiece marks the last step of his multipitch project. Until the next adventure!
