Ryuichi Murai répète Sleepwalker – Ryuichi Murai repeats Sleepwalker

  • 07/02/2023

Ryuichi Murai Sleepwalker

Japanese Ryuichi Murai is since few days in Red Rocks to work “Sleepwalker” and just succed (5th ascent). This boulder was opened standstart by Jimmy Webb 4 years ago and Woods opened the sit given 9A/V17, one os world’s hardest proposition. The standstart took to Ryuichi 8 days of effort for his 4th 8C+ boulder after “Gakido”, “Floatin” and “Decided SD”. Here his comment left on social media.

After 8 days effort I managed to send it!!
I’m so happy to be able to climb the king line, which I’ve been longing for since I first watched Jimmy Webb and Daniel Woods climb about four years ago.
On the other hand, the process to success was tough. I was able to do each move on day 2, but didn’t make much progress on days 3-6. Especially for me, who has a short wingspan, the deadpoint to the sloper was the hardest move, and I felt physically and mentally tough.
However, thanks to Nomura Shinichiro kind words, I did a so close try on the 7th day. Additionally, I found a new hold that makes more stable in the upper part, and success became realistic.
On the 8th day, it was the slightly warmer conditions. I had a good feeling of undercling, and I was able to hit the sloper from the start for the first time. After that, I was fell by slot hold twice, but I finally managed to climb it on the third hit. It was good to be in time just before the end of the tour!”
