Will Bosi répète “Burden of Dreams”, 9A-Will Bosi grabs first repeat of ‘Burden of Dreams’, 9A

Le rêve n’est plus un fardeau ! L’Écossais Will Bosi entre dans la cour des très grands en décrochant la première répétition du premier 9A de l’histoire, “Burden of Dreams”, la nuit dernière. Nalle Hukkataival avait mis plus de 4000 essais et trois années dans le bloc, il aura suffi à Bosi de 24 jours (dont 10 sur la fameuse réplique à Sheffield).

Considéré comme l’essence même du bloc, “BoD” brille par la pureté de sa ligne : courte avec ses 5 prises, belle et très (euphémisme) intense. D’après Bosi, le premier move à lui seul vaudrait 8B/+, et le plus facile, le quatrième, 7B (pour les autres : 2 moves en 8A et un en 7C), autant dire que ça serre, d’autant que l’angle du panneau passe de 41 à 45 degrés…

Depuis quelques semaines, “BoD” est sur le devant de la scène : vidéo du travail sur la réplique (Roberts, Bosi, Ghisolfi), vlog de Shawn Raboutou sur place, et bien entendu les live très suivis de Bosi dès sa première séance en Finlande. Bref, l’émulation positive va bon train, et l’Écossais insiste d’ailleurs beaucoup sur le fait que travailler le bloc avec autant de forts grimpeurs (n’oublions pas le japonais Toru Nakajima) a été d’une grande aide, autant en ce qui concerne les micro-bêtas que l’encouragement.

Depuis sa retraite des compétitions, Will Bosi n’arrête pas de gravir les échelons en bloc et falaise (“Burden of Dreams” est son second 9A, après “Alphane“), et étant donné son jeune âge (24 ans), on se dit que l’échelle va peut-être bientôt devoir être rallongée. Pour la suite immédiate, l’idée de Will était de retourner dans “Excalibur” 9b+ en Italie, mais la météo y tourne au chaud et il semble se diriger vers les USA. Après un 9A minimaliste, peut-être un 9A maximaliste (“Return of the Sleepwalker”)?

Lors de son passage d’un mois en Tchéquie l’an dernier, Will avait coché un bon nombre de blocs durs et quelques voies. Il avait également posé les doigts dans deux problèmes de taille : “Vasil Vasil”, le troisième 9b+ de l’histoire ainsi que “Terranova”, 8C+. Sachant qu’il n’a pas réussi à bouger dans celui-ci, il serait intéressant de le voir s’y investir…

The dream is no longer a burden! Scotsman Will Bosi enters the big leagues by landing the first repetition of the first 9A in history, “Burden of Dreams”, last night. Nalle Hukkataival had put more than 4,000 tries and three years in the boulder, Bosi only needed 24 days (including 10 on the famous replica in Sheffield).

Considered to represent the very essence of bouldering, “BoD” shines by the purity of its line: short with its 5 holds, beautiful and very (understatement) intense. According to Bosi, the first move alone is worth 8B/+, and the easiest, the fourth, 7B (for the others: 2 in 8A and one in 7C). In other words, not a doddle, especially since the angle of the panel changes from 41 to 45 degrees…

For a few weeks now, “BoD” has been in the limelight: videos of the work on the replica (Roberts, Bosi, Ghisolfi), vlog of Shawn Raboutou on the boulder, and of course the very well followed live of Bosi from his first session in Finland. In short, the positive emulation has been going strong, and the Scot also insists a lot on the fact that working the boulder with so many strong climbers (let’s not forget the Japanese Toru Nakajima) has been a great help, regarding micro-betas as well as encouragement.

Since retiring from competition, Will Bosi has not stopped climbing the echelons in bouldering and sport climbing (“Burden of Dreams” is his second 9A, after “Alphane”), and given his young age (24), one could be excused for thinking the ladder may soon need to be extended. In the immediate future, Will’s idea was to go back on “Excalibur” 9b+, but the weather is warm up in Italy and he seems to be heading for the USA instead. After a minimalist 9A, maybe a maximalist 9A (“Return of the Sleepwalker”)?

During his month-long stay in the Czech Republic last year, Will ticked off a good number of hard boulders and a few routes. He had also put his fingers on two major problems: “Vasil Vasil”, the third 9b+ in history as well as “Terranova”, 8C+. Knowing that he failed to move in the latter, it would be interesting to see him get involved…
