Une King Line de plus dans la besace de Mathieu Bouyoud ! En effet, l’expérimenté falaisiste chambérien a coché hier lors d’un combat titanesque une des voies majeures de la falaise d’Oliana, “Papichulo” 9a+. Mathieu a fait jouer toute sa science de la grimpe pour faire un run qui se rapproche de la perfection, et c’est une rare fois où nous avons entendu Mathieu crier dans une voie d’escalade, lui qui nous a habitué à dérouler les voies dures presque en sifflotant !

“Papichulo” remonte le mur central d’Oliana sur près de 50 mètres dans des coulées bleues sculptées, à coup sûr une des voies les plus belles d’Europe dans ce niveau, souvent associée par les grimpeurs forts à “La Rambla” et “Biographie” pour constituer une trilogie de rêve de voies sportives majeures. Après un départ très bloc environ 8b/+ et un repos total sur une vire où on peut s’asseoir, les hostilités commencent avec 15 mètres de 8c/+ très résistants jusqu’à un semi-repos, avant un pas de bloc constitué d’un derviche et d’un mouvement dynamique difficile à négocier car demandant de la précision et un travail chirurgical de préhensions (environ 7A bloc). S’en suit une boucle résistante puis un final conti qui alterne pas de bloc et repos, où il ne vaut mieux pas mollir…

“Ma première montée dans “Papichulo” remonte à juin 2019 juste après avoir enchaîné “Esclatamasters”. J’ai ensuite réalisé 10 jours en novembre 2019, une semaine fin décembre et 10 jours en février 2020, où j’étais assez proche, tombant dans la boucle. Malheureusement l’épidémie de Covid ne m’a pas permis de terminer ce chantier immédiatement, alors j’ai collé une photo de la falaise sur mon frigo histoire de me remémorer chaque jour ce projet et entretenir ma motivation ! Juste de reparler de ce projet avec Axel Ballay me redonnait envie de revenir finir le travail. “Papichulo” est un des plus beaux 9a+ à faire, l’endroit est incroyable, le bombé bleu est parfait. Une voie qui me convient bien, à doigts et continue. J’ai sorti le run parfait pour dompter la bête.”

Au 3ème jour de travail cette semaine et au 4ème séjour, Mathieu réussit donc son rêve du moment et coche son 2ème 9a+ de l’année après sa proposition à La Balme en septembre dernier, “Team Frisouille”. Comme le signale Toni Mas Buchaca, photographe local non-grimpeur de Peramola mais passionné par la falaise, cela faisait quelque temps que personne n’avait clippé le relais. Le dernier était David Firnenburg en janvier 2020. Mathieu signe la 24ème ascension de cette voie mythique, son 3ème 9a+ et sa 25ème voie en 9ème degré. Une année 2021 pleine pour lui !

Another King Line under Mathieu Bouyoud’s belt! Experimented rockclimber from Chambéry, France just ticked yesterday one of the must of Oliana, “Papichulo” 9a+ after a huge fight. Mathieu has used all his climbing science to make a try close to perfection and finally clip the anchor. It’s rare to heard him screaming in a climbing route, usually used to make easy some hard stuff…

“Papichulo” is located in the center of the crag, 50 meters long in a blue scarved wall, for sure one of the best sportclimbing routes in this range in Europe! This route is often considered by pro climbers like a part of a dream sportclimbing trilogy with “La Rambla” and “Biographie”. After a bouldery 15 meters start in the 8b/+ range and a complete rest on a ledge where you can sit, the business is starting with another 15 meters of powerful and fingery 8c/+ until a little rest. Then the main difficulties arrive with a 7A boulder whith a big cross and a deadpoint move, a resistant loop and a stamina finish, where you should stay determined.

“My first check in Papichulo” was in June 2019, just after my send of “Esclatamasters”. I did a second trip in november 2019, a week for Christmas 2019 and 10 days in Fébruary 2020, where I was close, falling in the loop. Unfortunately Covid pandemia didn’t allowed me to finish this project, so I stick a postcard of the crag on my fridge as reminder, to keep the motivation high! Just have a talk about the projects with friends who where trying too like Axel Ballay gives me a lot of hope. “Papichulo” is one of the best 9a+ to climb, the place is incredible, this blue line perfect. A route which suits my style, fingery and sustained. I did the perfect try to conquer it.”

At his 3rd day back on the route , and during his 4th trip, Mathieu’s dream came true, and he climbs his second 9a+ this year. Remember he did the first ascent of “Team Frisouille” in La Balme last September. Last time was German David Firnenburg in January 2020. Mathieu signs here the 24th ascent of this mythical route, his 3rd 9a+ and his 25th 9th grade route. A full 2021 year for him!
